Well, I did it I looked at the iPhone at the mall yesterday and wouldn't you know it was all turned on and they let me play with it. MISTAKE!! It is so cool I loved it!!! But I wonder if used as a phone how is the quality of sound/reception. Looks like the coverage area isn't as broad as others at the moment but they bought out Altell so that will add areas.
So, anyone out there have one and do you like it? I liked that you have internet, email, gps, iPod and who knows what else all in one little device.
I forgot to add I can get this and a phone (not an iphone) for DH who hardly ever uses one for less than I pay now and I'll get more features free.
One thing if anyone if getting a phone or signing up for other services be sure and ask iif there are senior rates available and if where you work or retired from qualifies you for additional discounts. Some places don't offer unless you ask specifically. It makes a big difference sometimes!!

I have the iPhone 3G and love it! So much better than any cell phone I've ever used. I got it because when I was visiting my son and DIL in Ca last April, they were showing me theirs and all what it can do and I got hooked. As my Christmas present last year, my son put me on his family plan/contract and was paying the extra $10 a month for me, but with the iPhone the cost went to $30. He didn't ask, but I do pay him the difference. With his plan I have unlimited cell and texting. Of course that includes internet. You can go crazy with downloading all kind of applications. Some free, some up to $10 a pop! I can now use my phone for a flashlight and a level! lol Yep, iPod and iTunes also on it. The newer 3GS is either coming soon or may already be out. I forget what all the hype is about that one. Anyway, I get good coverage here but I haven't used it for traveling long distances yet so I can't really comment on that. I like the speaker phone part, too. I think other cell phones have that but with the big screen and touch pad it's so much easier to use.

Compared it to my Blackberry and prefer the Blackberry - but I want the NEW Blackberry lolol - never what we have is good enough anymore. And when I get the new one, within days they'll have another.

Note, I have had Alltel for years and found their coverage great, since the purchase by Verizon, some areas that were a bit low in coverage are good now. So think the two together we will get the best of coverage. I haven't looked at the new phones, guess I need to stop by and see what they have.

OMG I am an iPhone addict. I have the 2nd model that came out and will probably get the new one soon. The sound quality is very good. We just traveled 2000 miles and I briefly lost service when in some out-of-the-way places. Lenora, the new model has video as one of the new features.
The apps are terrific and continue to get better and most are free or 99 cents. Reasons why I like the iPhone:
Constant access to email and Internet - $20 unlimited usage (in addition to cell phone bill)
GPS
Stock info
Weather info - Weather Channel
"Campground" App will determine my physical location and then list all of the campgrounds nearby!
"SKP Parks" App lists all of the Escapee Parks
"Kindle" App allows me to purchase a book online and read it on my iPhone (and it's a free app)
"Grocery IQ" App allows me to keep a list of items to get at the grocery store
"OffLeash" App determines my location and will tell me the closest "off leash" dog park
"Around Me" App determines my location and will list gas stations, restaurants, etc. near me

Thanks for the help, I am leaning toward the new iPhone. I've also been reading the reviews on the new Blackberry Tour 9630 and the Storm 9530. I'm wondering Beth, what you read to make you prefer your Blackberry?

It's not what I read - it's what I can do on my phone - and the Storm is the one I want to up-date to. But, yes, I've read somethings that make the new iphone not as good as the original - but I do think it's what you like and what it does for you. And they make them all different like they make all the rv's different - cuz we're all different.
By the way - I use my Blackberry to tether to the internet - and it works great. The Storm is supposed to be even better. I can talk on the phone and be online at the same time - using the phone to do both. I have my orders sent to my phone on my business so I know when they come in. I could have other emails sent to my phone - but don't want to overload it and me with the hundreds of emails I get to each account daily (literally probably get 1000 emails a day - my phone would be continually beeping).
I don't use a lot of the bells and whistles. My phone has a gps - I don't use - maybe someday. I could also download a ton of music and listen via the phone and headphones. I can surf the internet (don't use it much for that). I rarely use the phone to take pictures, but it has come in handy a few times for that when I've needed to get a pic to someone of something right then and there - take it and send it. It has a video camera I've never used.
I wish they'd make different versions of these phones - I'd probably only need the basic - like cars - but it's good to know I have all the other options. I like the keyboard on my blackberry - but like it even better on the new Storm.
Get the one that works for you.
