I actually had a bit of an adventure

Daughter called this morning from Lake Powell, said she got injured thinking she
broke her shoulder and she was coming home early. Catching a ride with some
friends from the trip into Black Canyon City (about an hour and half from me)
and could I pick her up in about 6 hours. Of course I said sure. That would make
me doing that trip during rush hour trying to get out of town so when I got off
work I came home and took care of the dogs real quick, grabbed some water
and headed up there so I would be early and just hang out. She said she would
call me from Flagstaff. Soon as I got up there the Interstate got closed at that
town and the town filled up with people not knowing what to do or where to go.
Daughter called and said they were in Flagstaff and I told her I was already in
Black Canyon City and just waiting but that the northbound side of the freeway
was closed. Few minutes later a lady came by and said the southbound side was
also closed, and it was due to a fire at Sunset point, which was not far from us.
I could see the smoke. I immediately called my daughter back and told her the
Interstate was closed also on the southbound side. She then called her work
people to verify the fire and found out it indeed was closed both directions
due to a fire and they were calling for the water dump buckets. They decided
to turn and make the loop around the west and come in through Wickenburg,
and I said I would pick her up in Wickenburg. So, a half hour back down and
a half hour over into Wickenburg I found a nice little restaurant to hang out in
while I waited for her. Its a small town and the people in the restaurant were
very friendly, I had a Hawaiian Sundae, it was good, two scoops of ice cream,
strawberries, mandarin, and pineapple with carmel syrup and whipped cream
and sprinkled with toasted coconut. YUM. Called daughter to let her know
exactly where I was and that my phone was showing low battery. The guy in
the restaurant showed me where there was a plug in and let me charge my
phone, so glad I grabbed my charger as I went out the door. Now I am finally
home, got her home and she's going to go to the emergency after she gets
a shower and get an xray. Her upper arm is black and blue and all swollen.
I think she tore out her rotator cuff if she didn't break her upper arm. She
said she can't move it. Told her if she needed me to go with her I would and
if she needed help dressing ect. I would help with that too. The interstate is
open now but the traffic is still bumper to bumper and just now trying to
recooperate. Life holds many surprises and my little adventure today was a
bit of a welcome, although I'm sorry she is hurt, but I can remember doing
some crazy stuff myself when I was her age and it was all in the name of FUN.
Now we're having a storm roll through and the wind is blowing.

Ava, not my idea of an adventure but guess the term covers all kinds of things. Hope her injury is not too bad.

I hadn't been out of town for 4 years, so yes, it was an adventure. I know
there's a world out there besides going to work and coming home, makes
me want even more to go check things out soon as I'm able to. Something
else to look forward to.

Wow, Ava! That was certainly something different in your day! I do hope your daughter will find no broken bones, although a torn rotator cuff is a serious injury, and VERY painful. It sounds as if you handled the crises (all of them including highway closures, fire, injuries, low phone battery, and all) very calmly! Thank heavens your car got fixed, finally, eh? Now if that had decided to break down again in the middle of everything else, I suspect you might have freaked out!

Keep us posted on your daughter's condition.

Instead of getting lighter here, it's getting darker and darker, and feels as if more heavy rain is on the way. I suppose it will make me more apt to stay put in my recliner and rest today!

Sometimes it is good just to be reminded that the world and the road is still there and waiting for you. I remember driving down highways and looking at interesting exits and thinking "Someday I will be able to turn off and wander if I want too." I have done it in airports too, when I was getting the kids on the right plane. I would read all the destinations and think, "It will be me, just not today!" So keep your dreams live...you will get there! I haven't made it all the way but sure am closer than I used to be!!!! ....bird by bird.......

well, unfortunately, its broke. Xray confirmed, broke just below the cap of the
shoulder, the larger bone on the upper arm. They have her in a sling for now
until they get the mri done. They want to make sure if there is any damage to
the muscles, ligiments and rotator cuff. Now, the way it happened, they were
riding the wave runner, inner tube type thing pulled by a boat or jetski. This
one was pulled by a jetski with a 15 year old kid driving it. She told him they
just wanted to leisurly float around but the kid didn't listen and he proceeded
to go really fast, jumping the waves and bouncing them over the waves when
it happened. She went flying and her arm went up over her head and about
knocked her out. She said she heard it pop. Luckily she had her life vest on
cause she couldn't move and lay motionless crying. Another jetski went out
and picked her up and brought her in. There was a whole bunch of drama that
transpired and I certainly hope that kids parents don't let him run the jetski
any time soon, he could have killed her!

OMG Ava, your daughter is very lucky that there were others around to help her! Wish she would have went to seek medical help as soon as it happened, I can't imagine the pain she was in. Well, now the process has begun, hopefully they can get her back in shape.

OMG, what a story,... now that i know the details. She should have gone for medical attention immediately,... and those people there should have made sure she did just that. The pain must have been horrible. My heart goes out to her!

So sorry to hear that your daughter's shoulder/arm is broken, but, from the sound of what happened, it is a very lucky thing she is still alive. Holy Cow-----those jetskis can be very dangerous, especially when driven by a diabolical inexperienced driver. I hope that perhaps she won't need surgery to realign the humerous, and that, after the swelling goes down, she can just get it splinted or immobilized somehow. I imagine that all the surrounding soft tissue has been damaged, as well, and I have a feeling it will take a long time to heal. Makes my broken ribs seem a bit mild next to what she's going through. Keep us up to date with how she's doing. And you, too!

I hope that kid got his azz kicked. I hate practical jokes; they usually end badly.

The US Power Squadron org. I belong to is dedicated to safe boating instruction. In FL teenagers have to pass a safe boating course and be certified to drive any boat, including a jetski. It's really important for any boater to take a safe boating course, and should be required for adults as well. People can just buy a boat and hit the water with no idea of the danger they are putting themselves and others into. So sorry to hear about your daughter's injury. Hope they can patch her up with no permanent damage.

the son of one of her group people, and he felt SO bad about what happened and
yes he got grounded from the jetski for the rest of summer, maybe next year
kid. But he really did feel bad.
