Good books?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has read a good book recently? My last was "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortensen.....sooo good, he is my new hero, also a different perspective of world events. Now I am into "The Good Earth" by Pearl S. Buck......remember it from high school? The connection between the people and the earth in pre-revolutionary China is so gentle and beautiful. (alltho not so nice parts too!). BTW, I didn't get anything out of it in high school.

Any interest in starting an online book club? Is that something that might work on the forum Beth? Just a thought. Might be fun! Or just share about favorite books and authors in a casual way on a thread?

Everything by Stuart Woods and Janet Evanovich - love Ms Plum and Lulu. Pure escapism in mysteries is my fancy. Another good one is Sail by James Patterson.

I read just about anything/everything, also. Love to read and would like people to tell when they find something really good!

That said, I'm currently reading an old Dick Francis book I hadn't read before "10 lb. Penalty".

I have a box of books to read, and today was given a dozen more, including a Patterson, Steve Martini, David Baldaci and a Janet Evanovich which will be my next read - as I know I'll laugh all the way through that one.

I rarely ever buy a book anymore - except when there's something I just have to have - as I find I can trade at the parks - and here there are so many of us that read, that I can't keep up. And I read a lot!

And, if there is enough interest in a book club or a section particularly for books, I'll be happy to add it.

I'm reading fluffy stuff this summer,... good "feet up in the camp lounder" type of summer reads. I'm in for a book club too,.... I think it would be a good way to hear about different types of books. I get stuck in a rut some times and could use some good suggestions.

I like to read books, mostly fiction, with settings in places I'm traveling. So right now I'm reading "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer, after it was mentioned by our tour guide at Denali when we were shown the place where the young man wandered into the wilderness in 1992 and was found dead a few months later. It was also made into a movie which I have not yet seen.

Cool! Now I have some new ideas for books to look for at Half Price Books.

.....I don't know Stuart Woods, but love Ms Plum and all her adventures. Years ago I read a good book about a female detective, a movie was made with Kathleen Turner I think, anybody remember the name of that one? Sorry to be so vague.

.....Liz, that sounds like fun to read about areas you are visiting, I also read Into the Wild, but choose not to see the movie. Another one you might like is Into Thin Air about climbing Everest.

....Paulette, will be waiting for you reviews of Promise the Moon, by Elizabeth Joy Arnold and Heart of Dixie by Tami Hoag

....wow, Beth, trading books sounds like a great way to keep a good supply! I often go to Salvation Army or Goodwill, watch for
$1 books at yard sales, even got a library card, but haven't actually used it to check out a book.

No TV in TX.....so I read many, many books! Hope y'all will continue to share

While camp hosting last winter, we had a "trading library" in the community room....most military campgrounds have them.....the amount of books varied, but there was always lots to read....along with lots of jigsaw puzzles....Ernie & I both love to read...my sisters load me up with books every summer to take with me and when I finish, they go into the trading library where ever we are....love to read when doing the laundry....reading is also a break from the counted cross-stitching and crocheting....lol.....Ernie reads mostly military related fiction, westerns, and spy stuff....I read historical romances (really into Scotish/Irish ones.) and we both enjoy scifi, and stuff like dragons, wizards, (yes, we are Harry Potter fans...lol), and on the other end.....the "Left Behind" series, which we are working on now.....My one sister does alot of audio books, but I'd rather read cause the audio books put me to sleep....lol...

I love to read--- but my Bible & the forum------ have been about all the reading I have done for quite some time--- & I won't have time to read for a while----------but later when things slow down to a dull roar-------- I would love to join a book club with you/ if you decide to start one--------
The forum has been just heaven sent for me lately-------- when I seem to get over whelmed & not making progress----- & need a break-- I get a cold glass of water & come sit down at my putter- & check my e-mail & also read the forum!!!!!!!

Then when I get back up- I seem to be able to focus & make progress again!!!!!!!!

We have thousands of books & selling most all of them at the auction------ Hubby & I have kept back only one box full to keep & move with us that we are not selling!!!!!!!
We had a huge library full of books------ now we are selling them!!!!!!

We love books & it was hard to size down to only one box!!!!!!
I had a cook book collection also-- & sized it down from several hundred to one small box also!!! Miracles never cease!! :D :D

OK - here's where we stand - I'm more than willing to set up a room for talking books - and for a book club. But to do the book club, someone has to volunteer to take that one and run with it. That person will have to select a book each month (or however often) and then people are going to have to find that book and read it - so that you can all discuss it. Obviously some people might read one month and others another - which is fine. But this will require someone to keep it organized.

Any volunteers?

How about a room to share, recommend, review what we are reading with each other and not go so formal as a monthly book club at this point? IF the threads take off with much interest, maybe then consider a more traditional monthly book club?
