UPDATE ON MY RIBS

I haven't taken any Ibuprofen for two days now, except for a couple before bed last night so I could lie down. Today, I didn't at all like the way the ribs were feeling. I don't take any pain killers because I don't want my body to think it's better able to move than it is....BUT.....
Anyhow, I went for xrays today, just to be sure there wasn't any sharp, 'free' ends that could pierce a lung or my pneumatic sac covering the lungs. No loose or sharp ends, thank heavens, but at least two cracked ribs and possibly a third. Doc is sending xrays to hospital for further appraisal.
As I knew, nothing can be done other than bind my chest, thus preventing me from taking hot baths which really helps me feel better, so I declined both the chest binder and pain meds. Doc did say that Ibuprofen would probably help them heal faster by keeping swelling/inflamation down, but the best thing is REST. ACK! I am about to take a hot bath before hitting the chatroom.
I did tell doc he could send a young, handsome anesthesiologist wih an IV drip of Diprivan home with me, if he wanted! He laughed!
Off I go to the tub......I HATE having to take it easy.

With your luck, you'd end up with Michael Jackson's doc.
So, what lesson have we all learned from this????
If you're gonna dance drunk around a campfire, make sure you move the bar stools first!!!
Glad you're feeling a bit better! .

Soos, when I cracked mine, the Dr. had me get the wide binding thinga magiggy that I could take off and on, reminded me of what I had to wear after my hysterectomy. It closed with velcro. Maybe you could find you one like that

glad your feeling better but I know sitting and doing nothing does not make
you happy. Did he give you any indication of how long it would take to heal?
I'd guess a few weeks, my ex leaned over our boat one time and broke his
ribs, caused him 3 anuerysm (sp?) in his lungs as the ribs had pierced his
lung. He did spend a week in the hospital after he was coughing up blood.
So you dear Soos are a lucky girl. (as a result of the bleeding and damage,
he lost the bottom third of his lung, it died)

It was on "Some pics on a rainy day" when we were talking about her hauling firewood with broke ribs.
Come on now, Mitch, have you been hitting Cedar's wine too much?

My DH has had broken ribs 4 times since we have been married. He had 3 accidents with horses and fell down our stairs once. He didn't want to take any pain medication and the doctor told him he needed to take it so he could breath deeper and not get pneumonia. Sometimes it's better not to try to tuff it out. Of course, this is coming from someone that spent the night with a dislocated shoulder because she wouldn't go to the emergency room.

Dang! Have I got to find a new hiding spot? First Beth, then Mitch?
OK,... I'll just put it up on the picnic table for you all to get into.

Come on, now - a day without wine is like, well - a bad day.
You may hide it - but I've trained a "friend" to search out hidden bottles everywhere.

Sooos, do take it easy - ribs will heel faster that way. Glad to hear the pain is getting a bit more tolerable; just be careful not to over do and make it worse again.

A year ago next month my son had his horrible mountain bike accident and broke all but 2 ribs on his left side. The healing took 2 mons. He had to be careful (allot of bed rest in the first few weeks), because when the bones start mending, too much movement will refracture the new bone. And yes, pain meds are very important!

BED REST??? ACK!
How painful that must have been for your poor son....just a couple of fractures is more than enough for me.
I just fnished mowing the lawn, so now I will rest. Will that work? Let me hope so, or I will need to be incarcerated for insanity from too much bed rest!
