SATURDAY AT WALMART!

I decided to unhitch and go to Walmart, so won't need cat food, Cedar-----but thanks, anyway!

I always forget what a treat it is to shop at Walmart-----people pushing screaming (I mean EAR-PIERCING!) kids--totally oblivious to those around them blocking their ears and flinching, people talking on cell phones who sound as if they have asked me something, and when I say, "Excuse me?" they turn their backs to me, entire families blocking the aisles, chatting, deciding on Bounty or Viva, thousands of signs telling people where things are except for the ONE thing you are looking for, check-out lanes PACKED with people/families pushing two, three and four wagons of stuff, waiting for a price check, or someone to remove a security device from the person ahead of you, AFTER all your goods are already on the moving belt, getting lost trying to find a way out, forgetting which parking lane the big red truck is in, as there are always about 125 big red trucks in Walmart parking lots, wheeling 5 other people's carts to the place to park them so I can drive out, and last, but not least, getting into the correct lane to make the correct turn to take the correct highway direction back to where you want to go! WHEW! Better than an amusement park for me!

I got roasted chicken for dinner, and potato salad. Bob has broccoli and I have more green beans, or whatever.....I got tired shopping. Bob made a super dinner last night----scalloped potatoes and pork chops and delicious green beans. It was so nice to not have to think about cooking after my harrowing trip! So tonight I will 'cook' with the microwave and serve the dinner!

I guess Molly did fine staying in the trailer while I was gone, as there were no security guards around to assail me about any 'noisy' dog! Bob said he heard nothing, so I guess she felt at home in here and was fine. Twitch has been sleeping since we got about 1 mile from home! Besides eating occassionally, drinking, and using the litter box. I am leaving the cage open, but he's staying in there, right on his bed, for now!

Time for me to take Molly for a walkabout in my hiking boots, as these roads are like walking on an Oregon low-tide beach, minus the shells----just the rocks!

Had to pay for WiFi, but at least I can get on here now! 3.25 per 24 hours, so not too bad. I hope to stay in touch better now that I can get on here. No cable TV here, so I am watching just whatever digital channels come over the air via my antenna.....this little truckers' TV can get quite a few channels, so I am ok with that!

Happy Saturday, Everybody!

All of which is why I never go to WalMart. I think it's a scary place. I read a funny story on the Sweet Potato Queen's blog one time about a woman and her kids going to Walmart and I've always been sorry I didn't save it.

After I retired I used to go grocery/Walmart shopping on Monday mornings,... oooohhh it was heaven. Very few people there. Now that I've gone back to work it's only weekends that I have any time available to take the 80 mi. round trip for those errands. So I'm right back to dealing with the idiocy again. Yep Soos,... it's a mess there.

Soos, you forgot to mention those &%%$*() TV's hanging all over the store blaring ads at you. Keep meaning to buy earplugs to use when shopping at Walmart. And you're right - Don't those parents HEAR their little darlings screaming or worse, running all over handling things with their little grubby hands especially in the produce department.

Why, I am so surprised that I'm not the only one who can be called a GRUMPY, I-HATE-WALMART person!!! Their products are, for the most part, inferior, and as you have all mentioned - the chaos of the store itself. They're pushing their new "Steakhouse" meats - hahahahaha...like "select" grade isn't just slightly above dog-food quality! Read the fine print on most of their meats - you're paying about 15% more for SALT WATER, which they say is to impart tenderness. Well, thanks, but I'll brine my own meat, if needed! And their dairy - from my store, rarely lasts UP TO the use-by date, much less past it. And wash some Wally World t-shirts more than once and you have a great Swiss-Cheese look to the cotton...

Whew - struck a chord with me...sorry! It's far too early on a lovely Sunday morning to get me started on WalMart and all the crap they sell. Yup - Live Better, Pay Less...I'm going swimming with my guests!!! :D And afterwards, we have to make a run to WalMart...

I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Two years ago I was at one of our Walmarts and swore I'd never return. I was looking for jeans and couldn't get my cart around the clothes racks because of all the clothes on the floor!! In May I was at World Market looking for a standing jewelry armoire. The manager said for me to check Walmart. My hair on the back of my neck stood up! He said there was a new one about a mile down the road, so I did go check it out. I was pleasantly surprised at now nice the store was, but that whole shopping/industry complex is brand new and in a nice part of town, so hopefully it will stay that way. Time will tell, I guess. Oh, didn't find my armoire, they don't sell them anymore, but World Market got them back for Mother's Day and I scooped one up. They go fast! Love mine. My DIL told me about them as she has one she loves.

In Page we had a neat grocery store called Basha's. They sold items I couldn't find anywhere else. However when I got back to this area Basha's was going out of business. I bought their entire stock of HP Sauce (3 bottles) and some other hard to find items. So now the only choice we have is Walmarts. I've always wished they would put in a computer where you could type in what you are looking for and it would tell the location. Of course they won't do that..they want you to wander all over and impulse buy. But there roast chickens are good, and cheap!

Funny, I went years swearing off Walmarts and believe I went 2-3 years without entering one, yet now I do most of my shopping there. The name brands they carry can't be considered inferior - and I have no problem with their produce and meats - as I've found better there than at many of the other stores I've visited around this great country of ours. That said, those pj's I tried to buy after the pic, etc on this forum - those were plain too thin and possibly the word inferior would fit - however, they were what I expected for that price. I just think it's fun to do Walmart bashing, as I can't think of any grocery or big store I'd want to be in on Saturday. Now, I hope those of you who bash them - don't decide to overnight in their parking lot someday in the future. Just wouldn't be fair, don'tcha think? And every time I do stay there - they get a fair chunk of my change.

Don't get me wrong---it's not the goods at Walmart I don't like---it's the Saturday crowds of people oblivious to all but themselves! I really wanted to get the Walmart here at Saranac Lake, as my favorite discount store, Ames, closed up years ago, and now I never shop for anything except for the once or twice a year I get to Plattsburgh to Walmart. Unfortunately, political groups voted Walmart down here in Saranac Lake, and an Aldi's grocery store went in instead. I can't stand to shop at Aldi's....they never have the stuff I like there, and I the few times I've tried it out, I've had to go to the Grand Union afterwards anyway.

The things I buy at Walmart are great, way cheaper than the same name brands anywhere else, and it's the only place I ever buy clothes any more except for a discount store near my brother's house in PA. I am a discount shopper, for sure. But rude, ignorant people acting like savages should be banned from there!!!

Sigh.....I got as much of my grass cut as I could this morning,---wet, tall, mower-clogging stuff----and I am glad to get it done. The rest of it I am leaving until the wild strawberries get ripe. I guess I mowed at least 2 acres of grass---got my walking in for the day! And, so far, it hasn't rained! In fact, it's beautiful out here. I am sitting on the screened-in porch with my laptop. Guess I need to get some lunch. Then I'll take Molly for a walkabout on the property. I am saving my shopping chores for when it's raining!

Later, you all.

I knew that Soos - and don't get me started on people with strollers. Usually the kids aren't even in them - the kids run and cause havoc, and the people push the strollers and control the entire aisles. And I grit my teeth.

Yup - the brand-names from WalMart are fine, and mostly cheaper. It's their specific, made-for-them items that are inferior, in my opinion. I avoid most Great Value items like the plague. Since they're the only game in town, I spend a huge amount of money every month there...I guess that makes me a 'Bash and Buy' kinda person. So, I'd guess if the need came up, I'd overnight there. I know I have to still shop there.

I will go on record as saying I love Walmart- I love their prices, the quality of both clothes and groceries. I like that I can go into one almost anywhere in the country and find my favoriten items. I like that I can get an oil change for the RV, buy groceries inclduing deli and bakery items, clothing, movies or CDs, camping items, hygiene products etc. get my nails or hair done(never have done this at WalMart), get my eyes checked and buy glasses or contac lenses, get my taxes done, some have financial advisors and/or banks - all without leaving the store. Rude, oblivious people are everywhere and seem to shop mostly on
saturdays. In my home towen we have one regular store and one super center. They nare building another supercenter to replace the regular store (closest to me) but it was on a year delay for construction and I can't wait for it to open sometime next year.
