Trivia for the Day

The first person to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel was a woman, Anna Edson Taylor, a former school teacher from Bay City, Michigan, who made the plunge on her 63rd birthday in 1901. Since then, another 15 have gone over the falls as a gimmick. Five died in their attempt.

Interesting, huh?

I never knew that, I'm sure back in 1901 the barrels were those old wooden style too.
You could never ever get me to do that! I guess I'm not a thrill seeker. A good walk
in a botanical garden is about as much thrill as I seek. :P

Thats neat! Being a teachers asst. I can understand why she might have done that! Although for me its just scarey enough standing on a stool to change a light bulb. I am too chicken for something like that!

After spending over 4 months in Bay City MI this past winter, I can thoroughly understand her motivation. At least if she failed to survive the plunge, she wouldn't have to endure another Michigan January, February or March! Burrrrrr!!! I'm so southern acclamated now that I don't do well in freezing temps...and I really dislike shoveling snow! :!:
