Color or no color?

My hair has been turning gray for a really long time, and when I was younger it really didn't bother me at all, in fact, I was proud of it, BUT, the past few months as it's getting grayer and grayer, I am feeling worse and worse about it. Oprah ALWAYS says color......what do you all say?

I think it depends on the grey/silver-some people have a great color-I'm thinking Jenny at least, and others-myself included-have a terrible mixture of grey and black, which I don't like-mostly dark and the grey is very brittle and wiry. Also depends on whether you mind spending the time and $$. The most important reason for me is: how does it make me feel and only you can decide that. Good luck. We'll like you either way :D carold

I guess if it's a natural shade and well done, color it. So many people look so fake with dyed hair. I agree it's how it makes you feel about yourself. if it were me, I'd probably do it. So far it's a decision I've not had to face. I inherited my great grandmother's brown hair that never greyed. My few grey hairs are just at my temples.

My hair is very gray now, and I have no idea if it looks good, or not---but it's ME, and I am who I am. I will never dye my hair. Can't afford the time or the money for fashion, or whatever dying one's hair is. I feel it's a very personal decision whether to color or not to color. I will say that I never notice gray hair on a person, but I sure do notice a dye/color job that looks like Barbie hair!

When I was young(er) I died my hair every color in the rainbow. Now its salt and pepper and I'm way to lazy to die it. The old adage that blonds have more fun is silly. The brunettes are out enjoying life while the "blonds" are inside dying their hair. The bottom line is do what makes you happy - purple hair is great, so is pink.

I am very gray, but it is part of my investment in my life. I am rich and it goes like this:

Silver in my hair
Gold in my teeth
Gas on my stomach
Lead in my butt !!!!

You need to do what you feel good about. I have colored and bleached in my younger days, but find that every 2-3 weeks makes it crummy and I don't want to do it. And you know how it is - do what you want to the outside, you are still the same inside! Be Happy!

I haven't colored mine in years, and since I'm a red head, the color is hard to match
but I do match it and no one knows its colored until I tell them. I'm going to color
mine after I get it cut though. I do agree with the rest of the ladies though that
a bad color job is well.....a bad color job! I really don't feel bad about my grey
hair though so coloring isn't really a priority, but yep, I'm gonna color it again
some day.

I prefer to see my head and others in thier natural color whether gray or not! Once you start applying permanent color -- you are stuck for life. I personally don't want to be exposed to all those chemicals. Once in a while I will apply the hair glaze in a tint of red or blond to highlight and do a slight gray coverage. The only time I have applied color it was a temporary color then decided I didn't like it and did not do it again. Temporary color gives a person the chance to experiement with a color without being locked into a certain shade.

I think the key is that you said you were feeling worse and worse about it, so like most everyone else said, DO WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD :!: (didn't mean to shout  )

I've never put any color in my hair and at 49 I'm just getting grey at the temples and a few on top that stick straight up, whereas my sister, just one year older has colored her hair for years because she greyed very early and just in the last few months decided not to do it. Whatever she decides to do, is her decision, just like you.

Even if you want to just try it, then you can decide to continue to not.

I quit coloring my hair last Fall. I thought of what it was costing me to get it done and decided it wasn't worth it as my hair grows fast and I hated seeing the darker roots after a few weeks. I also asked myself why I was coloring it in the first place? What's the matter with allowing Mother Nature to go her natural course? At first it was scary as I saw just how gray my hair had become, and, even with fast growing hair, I still had two toned hair until finally the colored part got cut off. I have gotten so many compliments on the gray! :D No one every complimented me on the dye job!

I quit coloring mine and it took a LONG time for all of the color to grow out! (About 9 months to a year!) That said, I sometimes think of putting a rinse on it. Some days it just makes me feel OLD and I'm not (imho). Do what makes you feel good about you. I do have the silver grey hair, which is nice.

And remember, once started (if it is permanant color) it requires maintenance and time.

I decided not to be "vain" and allowed my hair to go gray. Then, after I became COMPLETELY invisible to men (I'm single) and people treating me like a little old lady (I was in my mid-50s), I decided to just go with the natural lightening process and go BLONDE!

I'm here to tell you, it's not too late to be a bimbo!
