Have your dogs checked !!!

I had two of my dogs in recently to have their teeth cleaned and the vet highly suggested that I also have them checked for heart worms EVEN THOUGH they are on Sentinel preventative year round. Apparently many dogs are showing up with heart worms and they don't know if it's a problem with the drugs or if the mosquitoes that carry the disease have mutated so the drug is not as effective.
Last year I commented to the vet that I was seeing ticks that were alive and fat on the dogs occasionally and that before they were either dead or nearly dead when ever I found one. He said Sentinel isn't for ticks and I told him that I knew it didn't say it was for ticks but, I had never had this happen before. I'm wondering if that is when the drug failure started. I like Sentinel because it makes fleas so they can't reproduce and works for various other worms besides heart worm.

I know should have put this under pets but, I sometimes don't get down that far and I wanted to be sure all would see the information.

Thanks for the reminder/warning ! My Vet "makes" me get Molly tested even though she's on heartworm meds all year. I figure it's not much money to have the test run so I"m happy to do it. I hadn't heard that Vets are seeing more heartworm on dogs that are on meds, that's scary !!
I hate ticks !!!!!!! So far Molly's "tick stuff" is working, problem is she picks them up, they ride in on her and then they're in the house !!!! I now have a small brush on the front steps and I brush her before she comes in the house - I'm hoping to find and brush off any ticks that may be on her. I want tick shampoo for me ! I hate the little buggers.

Now that is just plain scary :-) I use Frontline and as mentioned it does a very good job with fleas and ticks, except that the ticks will hang on just long enough to get in the house and then I will suddenly feel something crawling across my skin, neck, head, etc and sure enough it is a tick! Then of course I could have possibly brought it in on my clothes, but when it shows up at night long after my shower, I am thinking the pups did it!
