Scammers never cease

dang scammers never cease and I certainly hope some body didn't fall for the job offer
I inquired on. Sunday, there was an ad on craigslist I inquired on for a job, a driving
job for this guys wife while she was visiting from the UK. So I responded and enquired,
shared a few emails and I enquired on the compensation. HA! he sends me back an
email telling me he will pay me $600 for the week to drive his wife around town a
few times taking her shopping etc and that she will be here for one week. Then it
shows up.....he says his company will send a 5000 something dollar check to cover
his wives expenses and resort money and for me to cash it, keep my 600 and give
the rest to his travel agent.   guess I was only born yesterday
Now, there were two other legitimate job offers I came across on craigslist so its
not all bad. One is a driver for the bus that hauls the crews up to the fires when
they have wildfires, (one of our drivers at work does this in the summer) and another
company is hiring drivers for airport parking, I've done that before too back in Colorado
before the days of the schoolbus. Low pay but steady work. So anyway, the job hunt
is still in progress. Also got my summer schedule today, my summer school starts June
1 and goes to the 28th, after that I don't know what they have for me but there will
also be a few field trips. I should really hope for the parking lot job at the airport.
I put in an application at Toys r Us, they haven't called me so guess they don't want me.

That is a Nigerian Scam as I believe that is where they started from...coming from banks in Nigeria.
We had one happen with us, when we had rabbits for sale. Sometimes you can catch on to the email, by carefully reading the email or the post out loud exactly as it is written. You will pick up on some very bad grammar and the incorrect usage of American English. They say that our language is the hardest to learn, as we have so many words that sound the same, spelled the same, but depend on the use in context as to what they mean.

There is a newer scam out there with job searches..it almost happened to a friend, but she stopped and then investigated...further and discovered it was a scam.
They have you emial the resume and then they send another email with some interview type questions. Then once you send that, they send you a third email, stating you are on the group for final consideration. They just need to do a credit check and send you a "secured link" to provide the information for the credit check.

It was at that point she became concerned...and emailed several of us...my first thought was scam scam. So she tried to research and locate the company..with many resources and could not find them anywhere.

That's the one thing about the internet that you have to be extremely wary about, and look out for----all those scammers. And some of them have their trade down to an expertise! Good that you recognized it, Ava. I am sure they get many people to blindly divulge all kinds of info that should NEVER be given out over the internet.

Job hunting is very competitive today, as there are literally TONS of applicants out there for the same jobs---and all of them are desperate for some sort of income. I would be especially wary of a bus driving or driving job for any private person, as they could stage some sort of accident and sue your a&& off! It sounds as if you need to stick with your school bus driving possibilities, as they are all insured to the hilt and can back you should anything happen. Some Joe Blow from Hoboken should be avoided like the H1N1 flu!

Good luck---you'll make it through the summer, one way or another. Can you collect any unemployment, by the way? It would seem as if you could as they want you back for next year and you are unemployed for the summer. I would certainly check into it, if you haven't already.

Soos, about the unemployment, that is a very good question, always before they told
us NO and that we signed papers to some effect knowing the job was considered
seasonal, HOWEVER, this year out paystubs show a payment out to "workmans comp &
unemployment" so everyone is wondering what this new thing is and we're all sort of
waiting for July to go try applying and see what happens. Many times they make changes
and don't even tell us. At any rate, we all think since our paychecks drop down to 1/2
the amount come June we can qualify for foodstamps so we're going to try that too so
at least we will have some food since all the paycheck will go the regular bills like house
payments and car payments that we all have. I still think by law that we're entitled to
unemployment but we will see what happens.
