Road Trip....Jamestown to Austin

My first long trip in the Roadtrek is over, it was fantastic, the van handled beautifully on freeways and mountain passes. She didn't use any oil. Gasoline mileage is still to be determined! The only real difficulty was washing her windshield. The new LOVE station at the intersection of 40 and 95 had squeegees with long handles, that's what I need. So enough of that, here's the real scoop....
The Murrey Family Farm just east of Bakersfield has the BEST fruit. We got cherries and a bouquet of these sweet peas that we had in the van until yesterday morning. They smelled heavenly!
The first night we stayed in a friends condo in Lake Havasu, it was VERY hot! But just a quick stop, so no bother, and we were up early to visit the Grand Canyon. No pics, as I can't do it justice. We took a long walk along the rim trail, in the opposite direction from the crowds.
On a quick detour off Highway 40 for a root beer float on Route 66 we found 1966!
At Holbrook we left 40 intending to do 180 southeast across New Mexico to Las Cruces via Deming. A quick change of mind and we made another detour, this time to Snowflake. We wanted to see where Raney's brother and family had lived many years ago. (btw, Raney is one of my oldest and dearest friends, not quite 50 years, but soon!). Snowflake was a fun surprise as we were NOT expecting to find green, green, green everywhere! It was nice change from desert. This is the Chamber of Commerce...
The drive through the White Mountains was amazing! The pass was right at 8500 feet. I loved the whole ride, that's my kind of country. This old bridge over the San Francisco River caught my eye, be sure to look for the javalina in center of pic...
Did you see us wave on our way past Silver City Karen? Next time I will stop, that day we were trying to get to Las Cruces before R's
grandkids went to bed. Here is the newest member of their family. His name is Charlie, 18 months, and completely mellow!
The next day I left R with her family and headed out across Highway 10 for Austin. Wind and rain, I finally got ahead of the storm. The south edge was stalled right over us, but it didn't let loose until about 10 pm. Thunder and lightning for hours!
Along about the RV Park in Ozona the wildflowers started. The right of way along the highway was a mass of this yellow daisy. Many more and kinds I didn't know all through the Hill Country and into Austin.
My DGD was so excited to see me and LOVED the Roadtrek. I can tell she gonna be a camper too!
