Saguaro Blossom

over the years I've been awestruck with the appearance of the blossoms that show
up on the saguaro cactus every may. But they are so high I could never really get a
good look at any. Up at the school where the bridge crosses over a dry river a saguaro
grows at the bottom allowing for me to see the blossom from the top, how totally
awesome!!!
First the buds.....

then a few days later they started to open.....

from a normal ground level distance, you really can't tell what they look like

Isn't it interesting that one of the prickliest plants has the most beautiful blooms. Cactus blooms always amaze me.

Trudy, that gives me a good chuckle with the image of someone trying stick their nose in close enough to smell the blooms without getting poked!

They are great pictures and I really enjoyed them Ava!

Trudy, your giving me a real chuckle, took me years to find one I could get over the
top of and get a picture of the blossom, now you want me to find a ladder? so I can
stick my nose in it? just kidding, I always thought they looked like plastic and
I know they have pollen cause I've seen bees coming out of them, and the birds like
them too but it looks more like the birds are picking off some bugs.

Wow! How cool is that?! Did I read somewhere that a bat pollinates the flowers and that the fruit is tasty? Neat pix, thanks.

such good pic's Ava...when we were in Tuscan we went to the Saquaro National Park and there they were telling (showing) things that are done with the Saguaro and it seems like to me jelly is made from the fruit. It is really interesting to hear the information too bad it doesn't stay with one
