Alive and Well

Sparkle and I are alive and well. We've been very, very busy - and haven't had good cell phone or internet for several days. I've had to make sure I take care of my business (took computer and cell phone into a restaurant one day while driving past and knowing I had a signal :) - as I knew I wouldn't have one where we were staying).

We're having a great time - are way behind on posting - and reading posts - but we will, eventually catch up. We need to count how many national parks and national monuments we've visited this trip - and we aren't done yet :) Then, I think it was last night - or night before - we got way behind - and I screwed up where I thought we were stopping - and that was just the best luck - as I found a great little place to boondock that night that would have never happened otherwise :) So, here's to that kind of screwup. Just wait till you find out how cheaply camping has been for us. We're waiting till we split up to make that final tally - but for those of you out there that think this has to be expensive - THINK AGAIN!!!! Course, if you want all the bells and whistles every night, then you might need expensive.

Love to you all - and I know we'll both be back on soon.

I was determined to post photos tonight, but can I get Photobucket to upload them? Noooo! We visited the Acoma Pueblo. Took the Official Tour and had a wonderful time. You take a Shuttle bus up, then a guide tells you the history of the place, then you have the option of the bus down, or...take the original path down. Naturally Beth and I opted for the old way down. There was one point when we just stood and stared in horror at what we had to negotiate. But we made it and once we were safely on the ground agreed we were glad we did it.
The fee for this campground at the Dancing Eagle Casino with hookups was $20.00. But if you signed up for a Casino Card it was $10.00. Then they gave us cups that they sell for $10.00, and a bungee cord with our card. Then when we ate at the Casino they took off $3.00 from each of our meals because we had the card. All in all a good deal.
The boondocking that Beth was talking about was just a Picnic area, but it was off the road, four big covered tables. Pull through sites and nobody around. We listened to the pine trees sigh in the wind all night. Bogie didn't even need to be leashed. I opened my door and he lay outside in the sun. We have found so many free, or $2.00 or $4.00 sites its unbelievable.

Hey you guys ... what is your itinerary (I know that'll make Sparkle laugh)? Are you coming
into Utah at all?

You too are doing my kind of traveling & camping. Carol and I have found many places in the West like your picnic area to boondock...not so many in the East. Seems like every town in SD, ND, and MT has a little place where boondocking is possible or camping for a small (under $10) fee. National Forest cgs are always economical too.

Glad you're having such a great time!

Can hardly wait for pictures. There is so much to see in New Mexico mostly within a day's drive of each other. I still have a few places I haven't seen yet.

Keep up with the explorations. I hope there will be someone interested in traveling the west around the time I have the time and cash to go. It sounds so much fun to go off the beaten tract with good company!
