Just now checked the forecast for my area on weather.gov. . . temps predicted to be low-to-mid 100's every dang day for the next seven days - with a possible 106 for both Tuesday and Wednesday. Night time lows in the mid-to-low 70's.

For me, this means staying inside with the shades drawn and the ac running 24/7. Although I set my a/c at 81 (still too dang hot inside) my electric bill was $350 for the month of July. It will be more for August - maybe pushing up around $400.

An expensive month for me, for sure, with $$$ vet bills (including the run to the emergency vet).

Oh well.

I guess that's what credit cards are for, right?

Yes predictions are for a hot week here in the valley! Was 68 when I turned off light last night. It's 89° at 10:48. Grateful for AC that showed its issue months ago so it could be fixed before hot summer!

That is hot for those not used to it. Actually it is hot for me too but worse when it is humid. At least your temps at night go down. The night time temps here don't get below the 90's.

I'm afraid to mention I'm wearing long sleeves abs leggings today. I'm looking forward to next week when it should be a tad warmer and sunny. But I'd probably be taking Lyn up on her offer if i was you, Anne.

If I wasn't working, I would take Lyn up on her offer! I think she and Romeow would get along great!

Watched one more episode of Shark, so late To bed. It's still 71° out and humidity today was a very dry 15%! Scary dry and high fire risk. One report said grasses and trees are at their very driest point of the year. Temp Tuesday predicted 107° and that is Sacramento. Here usually a degree ortwo higher in summer or lower in winter!

I am in high desert near town of Dolores, in southeast Colorado, and strangely it has rained off and on for the last couple of days and been darned chilly! Not quite long sleeve weather, and not quite a deluge, but enough to moisten the dry grass around here!! Campground is mostly empty because lake is almost dry. Wish it would continue to rain here and like this in other places.

Also, one way I rationalize my expenditure on gas is not having electrical or other utility bills!!

Thanks to all who posted on this thread. . . but. . . those of you who posted about long-sleeve weather - gimme a break! At this point in summer, as always, it is difficult for me to imagine a cool breeze, let alone the magnificent smell of cold rain hitting the ground!

Stinkin' hot here for the next week - mostly mid-100's. Velda and I are generally in a competition to see "who is the hottest" (WAit! I don't mean it in THAT way! ), Velda generally wins out (Velda is about 50 miles +/- south and a bit east of me).

But not always!

Velda, although I didn't check my thermometer yesterday at the hottest part of the day (it was 72 when I went to bed at midnight), at 5:00 p.m. it was still 103.

But - the competition is ON! Weather.gov is saying 105 today (Tuesday, August 16) and tomorrow, I'm betting I can beat that (I'm thinkin' maybe 106 - 107)!

Velda, are you in? I've got my chips on the table, I'm ready to rumble!!

At these temps the extra watering I am putting in my veggie garden (I have let my lawn die) doesn't seem to help much. The few tomatoes I have left (I have been fortunate to have been able to harvest quite a few so far, before this hot snap) I have covered with white dish towels to shade them a bit (not the plants, just the individual tomatoes) because those tomatoes that are not shaded by foliage and directly exposed to the sun just cook on the vine, bursting in the heat. Yeah, it is that hot!

And Lyn. . . thanks so very much for the invite! Maybe another time - when it is this hot I try not to drive anywhere when Joe will be with me - because, should I have even a minor mechanical problem on the road. . . say something like even a flat tire. . . just waiting for a tow or a tire change could be very, er, "problematic" for Joe, waiting with me on the side of the road in 100 degree plus heat. Joe is of a bit of a "short-faced" dog breed (brachycephalic). Such dogs - including Joe - do very poorly in the heat.

I would jump into the contest, but considering I live in the desert, I would win hands down! Anything below 110* is cool for us! We don't even get "excessive heat" warnings until it is over 115* here.

Anne, I don't plant anything here in the summer for the same reason you are experiencing now. Just no way to keep anything alive in this kind of heat. Can't keep up with constant watering and the sun just bakes everything.

In about 90 minutes it's gone from 80 to 95°! Who knows where we will end up. Plan to stay inside, with doors shut all day. Just too hot for going out. Humidity late last night 15%! Someone on Facebook said she would love 15% when it's hard to believe the humidity is so high. As I told her, yes I've been in Oklahoma when it's 90+ with 90+ % humidity , but you have no idea what you are wishing for when you wish for our 15% humidity- everything is too hot to touch outside and plants and trees are crisp dry. The ground cracks. Your skin is dry, your lips crack, it's hard to stay hydrated! I'm praying this next 7-9 days of HOT are our last HOT spell of the year, but know we usually have a few 100's even in September. Sure hope it rains thus fall.

Exactly noon here and it's 101° per my Davis Scientifuc weather station hanging about 6 ft from my kitchen window! Definitely think we will reach at least predicted 107°. humidity now 21%.

How about my weather, it’s currently 81° with dewpoints at about 41. Sunshine and a real nice breeze. This is normal for this time of year here, mid 70s to upper 70s. Lows in the 50s. We are heading toward Fall. I’ve been in 100° heat index weather so I don’t envy you gals. I guess you get your high electric bills in the summer where as many people to get high heat bills here in the winter.

Okay, Velda, you win this one because it was ONLY 106 on my patio, but we all know Barbie will win hands down. She's further into the desert than I am. I always love summer, but not these last two ones. I don't dare to even hit the pool because it is in the sun and rays are so hot!

I know I'll be moaning about the cold by Jan/Feb, but right now I'm heartily sick of summer!
