I don't know where Beth and Sparkle are, but my special good wishes go out to those who are in the southwest -- especially south Texas -- where cases of the new swine influenza are showing up. Be careful out there.

DITTO! I am hoping that all those in that part of the country report in regularly and begin washing your hands like a surgeon preparing for surgery!

What spurred my original post was (in addition to the news) a thread on another RVing forum posted by a full-timer whose wife picked up the flu bug in San Antonio, TX. They went on to New Orleans and she got worse ... then he got it and ended up in an urgent care center. They are now "holed up" in a park in Georgia. If it is the swine flu, they've potentially exposed people in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, probably Florida and Georgia.

Jan, I am very concerned as we have reservations for a
month in San Miguel de Allende on May 14. We are
watching news and the WHO, etc, very closely. If it was just
me I would probably cancel now, but will wait and see how rest
of group feels and how situation develops for a few days.
Rats! We were so exited about this trip! And I don't mean
to disregard the bigger picture, it's just very close to home
right now!

I got a call from my DIL this morning. My son is an ER Dr. and has gotten word concerning this new strain of swine flu. When even the medical industry is scared, it's got to be concerning to the rest of us. He said that even though there are two different kinds of drugs that are available, these drugs do not stop the flu from happening, only help with symptoms. There is NO drug on the market to prevent getting this newest strain.
So be diligent in hand washing and all the other things we've been taught to do.

This from Homeland Security director Janet Napolitano:
Symptoms of swine flu, which are similar to regular cases of the flu, include fever, tiredness and coughing, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea. I posted this because on another forum a poster stressed that vomiting and diarrhea are the key symptoms to look for.
Cough cough! Gosh, all of a sudden I'm feeling feverish and nauseated ... I'm tired, I think I'll go to bed. NO!! I've got to RUN to the bathroom. OOOOOHHHH NOOOOOOO!!!!
No hypochondria here!

Not to mention the deadly Bird Flu that has struck in New Mexico. Don't go outside, Karen!

Beth and I are fine, just very limited Internet Access. We just finished the Canyon de Chelly yesterday. totaly awesome! I like it much better than the damned hole in the ground, er The Grand Canyon. We will get caught up with our reports. Meanwhile as Alcohol is known to be a Germ Killer I will take some internally as a preventative!
Seriously, thanks for the warning and I hope all on the Forum, and their loved ones are safe.

Liz, you are too funny!!! I heard this strain of swine flu is hitting the middle section of the population much harder than the infants and elderly. No vaccine yet, but do wash your hands all the time and keep away from anyone coughing & sneezing. I have made it a practice to always carry antibacterial wipes in my purse and truck. I use one every time I leave a store, restaurant, etc., especially after touching money, common areas like counters, hand rails, and such. Since I started doing this I haven't been sick.

According to the latest news, a Swine Flu pandemic is now imminent....moved up to a level 5 out of 6.
Wherever you all are, please take extra precautions to stay away from any people showing ANY signs of illness, and if you yourself are sick, hole up in your own RV or house, unless you need to see a doctor. Don't assume it's NOT the flu, at this point.
I would not even consider touring anywhere now. It's time to stay at home or wherever you are right now.
Let's hope the whole world of us can get together at this point, and work together to halt the spread of this damn virus.
