If Photobucket will allow me, I'll post pictures here. Did separately so I wouldn't lose yet another long posting.

The gate into the Sanctuary with the dog greeters.

Looking for treats.

Just take the picture, I can't be cute forever.

Treats, who said treats?

Am I not beautiful? What do you mean "Big Bad Wolf?"

Sparkle, Flamingo glass and a "Mymosa" - who can ask for more?

Your story and pictures gave me goose bumps! Just awesome.
Thank you for persevering in getting those pictures posted.

Thanks for the great pics, and for hanging in there with that pesky photobucket. I forwarded that post on to my pal Kathy as she's a wolf fan. She camps with me at a GTG here in the Adirondacks and has met Beth there.

Karen.....the photos are wonderful!!! I agree wolves are beautiful....there was a Wolf Sanctuary for Lobos in Kane, PA when I was a kid....I believe they were moved to Washington State sometime in the '70s.....but we visited them every summer while we were growing up.....Thanks for sharing.... ;)

This was the "road" to the Sanctuary. Thank heavens Dee-Dee picks you up.

I am green with envy that you got that close to a wolf!!! I love Wolves!! If I did not know they were a wolf I'd swear they were huskies from Alaska! There's a Place in Tenino WA that someday I will get to go to to see the wolves. Thanks for the photo's.

I can't thank Karen enough for telling us about and making the arrangement for us to go to this sanctuary. It was a truly awe-inspiring afternoon for me - on a day when I was feeling "funky". It was exactly where I needed to be to pull out of it - as yesterday, in WI was the memorial service for a woman I worked with at the humane society. She would have heartily approved of my spending the time with DeDe and her wolves.

Thank you Karen. This was an experience I will never forget - and thank you also for your time. Wish we could have spent more time with you! Next time.

Terrific photos. Thanks so much for sharing.
Do any of these get released back into the wild?

No. they never go into the wild. They are hybrids (See my post about the sanctuary without the pics) and would probably be killed if seen in the wild. The farmers and ranchers want ALL wolves dead - no exceptions. Wolves ONLY kill to eat NOT for fun like humans do. They keep the balance of nature by taking the old, very young or weak and NEVER more than they need to eat. Where I used to live in California they wanted to poison ALL the coyotes and in an area where they did, within a year they were up to their eyebrows with field rats and rabbits. Duh! They mate for life and the Alpha pair prevent the other females in the pack from breeding so they don't over-populate. Too bad humans aren't as smart.

Karen, thank you for such an informative thread. I've always loved Wolves, and these pictures and the fact there is a place like this for them, it just great. They are such beautiful animals and I agree whole heartedly, humans could learn a great deal from them.

I'm glad you ladies all got to really enjoy first hand, but thanks so much for sharing the experience with us. Something else I would love to do.

Carol

Wonderful pictures. I thought those were hybrids. Were there any "pure" wolves there.

BTW, where is this sanctuary?
