I posted a new thread, "Smoke in the Forecast", and for some reason instead of a new thread, it was appended to the bottom of Sue's "Last Wednesday of July" post. . . and it also changed the title of her "Last Wednesday of July" thread to "Smoke in the Forecast".
Weird. Beth, I would try to fix this, but don't know how to fix it, nor how it happened. I removed my post from the end of Sue's thread. . .
Anyway, thought I would try again.

Went out into the back yard just now to do my mid-morning ball toss with Joe. . . there is smoke cloud overcast here (as opposed to rain cloud) and although I couldn't seem to see any actual smoke wafting through the air, the extremely strong smoke smell hit me in the face, making my eyes began to water and burn.
Velda, are you getting smoke where you are? (Velda is a bit south and east of me).
As I was calling Joe back inside (no ball toss for poor Joe) I noticed a couple of gray flakes wafting down, so it looks like it might be the start of ash fall. Again.
Looking on the maps, there don't seem to be any fires particularly near to me, so this must be smoke from the Dixie Fire (largest fire currently burning in California) which is probably burning about 60 - 70 miles from me up in the Sierra.

Looks like the wind has changed from blowing west to east, instead now blowing from north to south (I am south and slightly west of the fire). Don't know what the wind is doing up where the fire is, but if the smoke I am getting is from the Dixie Fire, the wind is likely blowing from north to south up there as well (or I wouldn't be getting this smoke). On the other hand, just found a map that seemed to show that I might be getting smoke from a combination of the Dixie Fire (in northern California) and the Bootleg Fire (in southern Oregon).
This might be very bad news for the small Sierra mountain community of Quincy - according to current maps, Quincy is about three miles south of the fire.
I'm hoping this is not the case.
