Luckily because we quickly dispatched of White Sands, we had some time to spend in Mesilla. First we stopped for a late lunch (Sparkle took a pic of the restaurant, I believe). Then we walked around the historic area.

Yep, we visit a lot of churches as a group, don't we?

In one of the stores, I saw a post card of one of the old doors - had to find it:

Billy the Kid was just about everywhere - but after reading this sign, I would say he definitely was here:

And the building the sign speaks of:

It was a cute little area - enjoyed walking around the square and visiting it.

If this is New Mexico, and I think you said that's where you both are now, I prefer it to Mexico, as I am still in my own country! It is aptly named, 'NEW' Mexico, it appears! Photos look a lot like those sent by Carol this past winter. Thanks for sharing your trip with us!

Those old doors are interesting. And Billy the Kid was really a kid,...just 22 years old! I love traveling along with you two,...

OLD MESILLA!!! We love this place!! We lived at Ft. Bliss, TX for 9 years total and spent alot of time here.....Yes, Billy the Kid stuff is all over the place.....We were introduced to "Blue Corn" meal here and love the resturant there....great food!!! Funny story here.......my Dad came to visit for a couple of weeks in '89 (Mom and the gang were moving him into a new house...what to do with Dad??? Send him to Lori & Ernie.... ) Anyways, we were doing the touring thing with him and as he was always clever in getting his own keep-sakes, he took a piece of the windowsill from that building in your photo......after lunch discovered he had lifted a napkin from the resturant..........and then while traveling back to El Paso on the back roads, we stopped to look at the cotton fields and pecan trees....he and Ernie took samples of each......I told them I so enjoyed my day with Jesse James and his older brother, Frank.....  (Dad & Ernie)............all they needed was a couple of horses and more members for their gang!!

Thanks for the photos!!! I so enjoyed the trip down memory lane.....

This was always a nice place to take out of town visitors. Such a great number of various stores where you could spend time and money. You guys certainly capture the essence of the places you visit!! Thanks.

We ate at the Cocina Restaraunt. Good food. The smell alone drew us in.
Front view of Beth for a change. Now I must tell you...Beth usually wears a summer dress. With all the winds we were having, she came out of her rig and her dress blew above her head. I screamed, "My eyes! My eyes! Dad-gum it, I didn''t have me camera!

You crack me up.   I always know where to go to get a good laugh. Thanks, I can always use one.

We've been there twice. DH and I had our 40th anniversary dinner at the Silver Dollar Restaurant in Mesilla in December of 06. They had the best margheritas. Enjoyed reminiscing with your pictures. Did you know this was one of the towns Billy the Kid use to hang out in? carold

Now, Carol, it was your turn to crack me up - didn't I have a picture of Billy the Kid in the narrative? You got so hung up in Sparkle's funnies, you missed my pics. I'm gonna cry - all the way to tonight's entertainment.

Beth, I'm going to blame it on being on Spain time. and I can just picture what that entertainment might be. carold

Okay, you're probably not going to believe this - but this morning, while in the shower, that comment (My eyes! My eyes!) ran across my mind and I burst out laughing. Matter of fact, I just chuckled while typing this.
