When you approach the Park all you see is a pile of enormous rocks. We stayed 2 nights. The first night we drycamped, 10.00 a night. I wasn't feeling well, it was cold and a howling wind, so I didn't take a photo of our sites. They were really great, right in the rocks.

The next night we opted for Electric Sites, 14.00.

I agree with Marda; keep up the good work.
Beth: Sparkle is just showing off another side of you. Careful what you turn toward the camera next.

Yes ma'am. While YOU were sleeping, Peaches and I were hiking. We went to the area of rocks overlooking the park:

On the way down, I took pics of our rigs and the part of the City of Rocks behind them. Here's Sparkles:

And just a pic I like of the rocks:

I am curious about the history of those eroded rocks. Are they the tops of a once-mountain range eroded down to nubbins? No glaciers there, ever, were there? Or are they the tops of a range covered with sand and then eroded? Nothing like those around the east that I have ever seen. Very interesting!

Your sites with electricity look very comfy, and it appears you have a covered shelter, too? Amazing for that price!

Like Soosie I'm fascinated with the geological history of those rocks. OK,... time to hit the internet on that. Were you in a crater of sorts? Could they once have been lava? Fascinating!

I once saw a PBS show on those rocks and others like them, scientists have theories
about how they ended up there and the one theory was they were deposited there,
sort of "rolled" there by big humoungous flood.

Found a good web site on the rocks/park. http://www.rozylowicz.com/retirement/cityofrocks/cityofrocks.html Says the were formed from volcanic ash, wind etc.

I believe I took a pic of the sign explaining them - if so, next time I have time, will upload to photobucket and add it here.

Neat rock formations. I'm going back now to see where else you've been. I'm so ready to be traveling, I'll do it vicariously through you and others. Thanks for posting the pics.

Ok, I'm a very conservative Christian woman, but the last picture of the rocks...ah, the one in the front center....kinda reminds me of...ah...well, you look and see if you see what I see.
Perhaps you and I are seeing the same thing, Beth, and that's why you like it? :o
