Primitive man collects his Christmas Tree

I LOVEd the three rivers area. Unbelievable that so many petroglyphs are so close that you can walk to and among them.

They say there are 6000 + petroglyphs here and I believe them. Remember, I took almost 200 pics yesterday. Just took me a couple hours to upload ONE pic that photobucket didn't like LOL from the falls - but Sparkle gave you the idea here of the grandeur of them. I didn't think I'd care that much, then kept saying "did you see this one" "look here" etc etc - I'm sure I drove Sparkle nuts

petroglyphs are such a curiosity to me, imagining in my mind some indian writing
on the rock many years ago, they are so cool.

Another case of me wondering who did the drawing, what their life was like,.... fascinating. Thanks! Isn't it great that we all go different places and then by sharing our pictures the rest of us get to go too, even if only in spirit!

I got such a feeling of "joy of life" when I was up there among the carvings. I didn't feel there was a deep religeous significance. I think that on different mornings, one of them said, "Oy fink I'll do me a little drawing today. Ta-ra Mum." Across from the campground there are the remains of the camp where they lived. Beth took photos of that.
I just found a pic of Beth teetering on a rock. She scratched up her leg on a thorny bush. Got knocked into a sitting position by the wind, luckily on a round rock, not a pointy one, but it didn't stop her.

this just gave me an idea.....
recently had gotten several BIG pots for planting, two got a new paintjob already but
wanted to do something different with the third big one as it didn't match the others.
I could put my own petroglyphs on it, how cool is that? Will take pictures and post
when I'm done

Great pics. Sparkle, are you sure it was a round rock or a "soft rock" that helped. Another possible place to get to. Check this out. Kanab is talked about on one of the pages. carold

Driving Sparkle crazy for too many question and "did you see this?" is quite fair in exchange for the butt shots....

Sheila, the Three Rivers Petroglyph site is close to Tularosa, just up from Alamogorda. This is the third "major" Petroglyph Site I've visited and I never get tired of them. The first one was at Cub Creek at the Dinasaur National Monument in Colorado. I swear there were Spaceships, Spacemen, complete with helmets and Constellations carved in the rocks. The second one was at Paragon Gap in Utah which is where Chris (OregontoCal) and I went at the Summer Solstice. 1000 years ago they could acurately predict when the 4 Solstices would be. There was a NASA scientist there, sent to evaluate just how they did it. I'm hoping to get back to that again this year.
Carol, that was a great travelogue. Made me want to get out my hiking boots, instead of sneakers and follow in his footsteps.
