Medicare Supplement Plan F

Morning Everyone. I don't travel any more, so I haven't been on here for ages, maybe years. Because I got most of my Medicare advice/info from folks on the site, I thought I'd post something I just learned: Medicare Supplement Plan F covers costs not covered by Medicare only on procedures, etc., that are approved by Medicare. For instance, I recently needed a tetanus shot. Medicare didn't cover it, so my Plan F supplement didn't either. I didn't realize this was a thing. So anyway, I got a surprise bill when I thought I was covered for anything that might come up. I'm not very good about research and know that most of you are, so you probably already know this. Just in case any don't, here it is.

Best to all,
Nikki

On Edit: Just talked to a very helpful young woman at Boomer Benefits, the company Beth has mentioned. She explained my options and coverage better than anyone else I've talked to and saved me approx. 50% on my rates by changing my insurance company and going from plan F to plan G.

If you want her direct line, pm me. I'll check frequently for the next week or so. You can also just use the general line.

Nikki, make sure your doctor coded the reason for the shot properly. They often don't. Yes, there are times tetanus shots aren't covered, but often if coded correctly they are. I'm very glad I'm using Boomer Benefits as my agent. They will go to bat for me on things like this.

Now I'm in the position of having to find out what to do since I'm taking a job with insurance. After I'm there and have the details, I'll find out if I can drop plan b and maybe c and get them again without penalty when I lose the company insurance. It would be nice to not have to pay those premiums for awhile. But I'm not taking chances until I have all the details. And then I'll let my agent go through it all for me.

Medicare and Plan F covered my tetnus shot a bout five years ago. Not sure why mine was covered and not yours. Strange.

If I have my information correct a tetanus shot if used as only a routine update of shot records it is often not covered. If there is a medical reason such as some type of open wound injury it is. And apparently that depends on the insurance. Medicare pays for some and sometimes doesn’t pay for others. Coding by the doctor’s office plays a big part of it too.

Going by what the rep at Boomers told me, you're all right. Could have been any of the situations you mention. United Health Care was no help at all, and I'm not willing to get into a conversation with Medicare. So, bill is paid and I've learned a lot. Hope to be accepted by new insurance company and use Boomers as my advocate.
Thanks for all the feedback.
Nikki

I'm glad Boomers is able to help you. I was lucky to find them and pass underwriting for a policy to switch. Medicare isn't easy by a big stretch.
