The Weather - 108 degrees and counting :-(

I thought it was a hot one today, so went out and checked my thermometer (that is always in the shade on my front porch).

108 degrees @ 4:00 p.m. Ugh.

Velda, thinking of you. How are you doing? What is the temp at your house? (Velda lives fairly close to me - I'm guessing about 40 miles or so).

Man, if it is 108 here, I shudder to think what it must be at Barbie's house.

Ladies, how about an update? Although we can't do anything about the weather, at least we can talk about it.

Personally, I would MUCH rather think about my new love:

AHHHhhhh. . .

We were hot but not that hot. I think we only reached 98 today and cooler tomorrow. I remember when I lived in Redding OMG what a hot spot that was.

We topped out at 107 for about 2 hours today. That's warm enough for me! We stayed mostly inside. I went out long enough to empty trash. That's it. I clearly recall this day in 2013, as Mel had his big surgery on the last Thursday of June in 2013. It was over 109 and as high as 114 for a solid week! My Night Owl was plugged in at the hospital tiny RV park and it struggled to stay cool. I left on AC on all day while I was at the hospital at Mel's bedside and hoped my fridge stayed cool. And many of you were already supporting me across the miles that week. I've long been grateful for that support.
Tonight I'm sitting here trying not to flinch enough to throw my back out as about every 15 min for past hour, loud bangs of firework rockets keep going off. I can't tell wher they are or I'd call it in. Even Mandy jumps and she's a pretty steady calm kitty.
Hope all of you are tucked in and sleeping at thus 11 pm on west coast hour.
Have a good week everyone.
Velda

The. . . [expletive deleted] in my immediate area began torching off the booms this past Tuesday (June 23). More booms each night - generally in the 11:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. range.

If past years are any indication, these booms will increase in number and frequency over the next week, generally coming to an ear-deafing, cacophonic peak on the 4th (with pretty much constant, non-stop booming between 9:00 p.m. and midnight).

I'm talking the works here - bottle rockets, cherry bombs, etc. With the bottle rockets (set off in a fairly dense neighborhood, for crying out loud!) I am always concerned that one will land on my roof and set my house on fire (it has happened here).

Like you, Velda, if I knew where they were coming from I would call it in. I have always gone camping up in the mountains somewhere at a place that doesn't allow fireworks for the week of the 4th. I had some delightful reservations at a couple of Oregon State campgrounds for this year, but due to the 'situation' ended up cancelling. Woulda been nice.

After the 4th, the booms will slowly taper off until July 6 or 7, when they will be mostly over. After a week or so of constant bombardment.

Big Joe is not calm or steady, so far as loud noises go. Loud bangs are the absolute worst. He gets very irrational and tries to do weird things that he never tries to do otherwise. Like try to climb behind the tv, or jump on the dining-room table. Maybe take a try at jumping through the living room plate-glass window. That kind of thing. For now, I need to keep him crated when the banging starts - I have to remove his food and water dish first, because he gets so very agitated that I am concerned he could injure himself on them.

I am NOT looking forward to the 4th.

Yeah, the ocean would be nice, if I could only get myself there. For now, I'm just sitting here dreaming of Mt. Adams (photo above). Adams is one of the very large stratovolcanoes in Washington state.

Be still my heart.

Anne web have the explosions here too until days after the 4th. I don't mind as much on the actual evening of 4 th but its gotten way out of hand! Sorry you and Joe have to put up with it. Hugs to Joe, such a sweet boy. I'd love to go to a volcano someday with you and learn from your long study!
