Ashfall Advisory

Mount Redoubt has erupted multiple times this morning, most recently at 9:24 a.m. with a plume rising to 65,000 feet. An ashfall advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, is in effect for the western Kenai Peninsula, including Kenai, Soldotna, Homer and Cooper Landing. The Ashfall advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday.

Ash from these eruptions is will track to the Kenai Peninsula with an estimated arrival of ash between noon and 2 p.m. Minor ashfall, trace amounts to 1/8 inch of ash, is likely from Ninilchik southward to the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula, including Homer and communities along Kachemak Bay. Trace amounts of ash are also possible for areas north of Ninilchik.

An ashfall advisory means that ash will be deposited in the advisory area. People in areas of ashfall should seal doors and windows, protect electronics and cover air intakes and open water supplies. Minimize driving.

The National Weather Service also has issued a flash flood warning for the Drift River Valley, effective through 3 p.m. Thursday.
