I am requesting information from the folks that have/do travel northern CA. We are in Crescent City CA leaving in the morning to go to Redding. We drove a portion of 101 yesterday to go to the Redwood Forest area (and traveled 101 for 2 days prior) and are heading to Redding CA tomorrow. 101 had lots of steep grades and hairpin turns and are considering taking 199/Grants Pass instead. Are we making the right choice? Please advise and thanks in advance.

Yup it is windy and curvy in some spots but WAY better than 299. I travel this way when, i was working in Eureka. Lots of pullouts

Karen, are you saying we should take 101 & NOT 199/Grants Pass?

Okay, I've done my homework and we would take 299 off 101, and I've read that 299 is dicey and not for the faint of heart. We're taking 199 to 5. That will work. Thanks Karen!

That is the way I would go. 299 is AWFUL in a Motorhome. I would take my car that way but not my RV

199 will work

Thank you, Karen. I will sleep better tonight! I'll contact you after we get to Redding to let you know how we did.
