Our super fantastic day ay Hagen's Cove

Being forewarned by Sparkle that camping is not allowed at Hagen’s Cove, we headed first to this cg at Keaton’s Beach Friday night. You can see the Pleasure Way in its spot overlooking the Gulf.

Image

After checking in we met some of the other campers.

Image

He wasn’t Elvis, but was entertaining all the same.

Image

Roe played fetch in the water but not for long. Something made it uncomfortable walking…perhaps oyster beds, or more likely old scallop shells. This is prime scalloping territory in July & August.

Image

This cg is famous most of all for its sunsets, and we were not disappointed.

Image

Bedtime for birds.

Image

As we prepared to go inside I realized that Belle wasn’t with me. She was lost!

Image

It was rapidly getting dark, and I had to retrace all my steps and try to save her. Where could she be? Perhaps she ran off with this handsome fellow we saw in the park earlier?

Image

Finally we found her, whew! There she was, calmly watching the fading colors of sunset on her perch…just like all those other birds.

Image

This was the view out the back window in the morning.

Image

We walked down to the public beach before leaving for Hagen’s Cove.

Image

Not sure if this cross is here all the time or if they’re getting ready for Easter sunrise service. Great place for a sunrise service.

Image

Boats coming out the canal.

Image

Hot dog stand.

Image

Shelter overlooking the water.

Image

Then it was on to spend the day at Hagen’s Cove. Everything Sparkle said about it is true….it’s a beautiful quiet place to spend the day.

Image

We wondered if the spot we picked was the same one Sparkle liked? This is my friend and neighbor. We were celebrating her birthday.

Image

Thank you, Sparkle for telling me about this trail. Roe enjoyed it.

Image

I think he licked this Horseshoe Crab. EEEwww!

Image

Image

Observation tower in the distance.

Image

View from the observation tower…child playing on the beach.

Image

Looking the other way.

Image

That black dot out in the water is a man fishing. Low tide, I guess.

Image

The loudest noise all day was this airboat when it left.

Image

Back to our spot to sit a spell and read….

Image

….or nap….

Image

…and watch the world go by.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

After awhile I wandered d own to the waters edge as the tide was coming in. I wondered what all these birds were after…

Image
Image

they sure were busy.

Image

Lots of them.

Image

Wading in myself, I discovered tons of these tasty looking little critters.

Image

What a lot of fun watching the activity that takes place under the water. Check out this video…of two of these snail-like critters moving around. If you look closely, you’ll also see tiny minnows cleaning the algae off their shells. It always amazes me to watch God’s creations both large and small and how everything works together for good.
(I hope the video works…I’ve not mastered uploading and posting videos yet)

Image

Group hug!

Image

And so that was our super terrific day at Hagen’s Cove! Only one more word of advice: if you go there, remember to bring your bug repellent.

So kewl - yes the video works!

I, too, enjoyed some time at Hagen's Cove (they let me spend the night then, tho). It is certainly beautiful and peaceful. Great place to regroup occasionally.

what great pictures, thats looks like a very relaxing place to walk around. Can't say
that I would enjoy the bugs though, so thanks for the bug repellant tip, I'll keep it
in mind. :P

Yes, and Bandit was quite put out that he had to stay home. We told him he could sleep in Roe's bed while we were gone, so he did.

These are old photos from various trips to Hagen's Cove. I've boondocked there for a week at a time, but this year I got hauled out of bed and told to move on. Grrr, give some people a uniform.... This was my sunset one year at Old Pavilion.
Image

Bogie watching a couple of Horseshoe Crabs doing the wild thing.
Image

The shellfish were Fighting Conch's. It's such a peaceful place. When I can't sleep I just imagine I'm there.

Loved your campsite backed up to the beach....is that cg able to hold a big rig? Site looked kind of small, but I sure did like it! Pictures were great and the video worked perfect. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy the new house!

Sharon, there were big rigs at the Old Pavillion cg in Keaton Beach, but a majority look like permanent residents. You'd want to call ahead and make sure they have space. I think they squeezed me in the last available spot on the water and my van just fit. I'm guessing they get booked up fast during scalloping season (July-Aug). Very nice people, laid back and casual. Roe was very welcome.
