window cornices

I am wondering if any of you (Sue?) would know how easy/hard these are to remove? I would like to remove both cornices from the bedroom windows and have no idea how they are attached. Hoping it isn't more that a few screws involved.

No, generally they aren’t hard to remove. I wouldn’t be surprised that if you look on the top you might find some screws or the upper edge. They might be mounted on a piece of wood that’s screwed into the wall. Or you could leave them and paint them. Chalk paint is supposed to work great on wood trim, cabinets etc. Neighbor swears by it. Uses polyurethane over it after done painting.

is this in the old house or the new? if old just leave it let the new owner deal with it

They are probably just held up with "L" brackets. Easy to remove with an offset screwdriver.

These are in the new house. I think they are too dark and heavy looking for such a small room so hope I can remove them. Thanks for the info. I will have to check on how they are fastened once I get moved in there.

Well, just to be contrary, I like the cornices. I think they are lovely, and add depth to the room.

I went back and looked at the pictures I like them as well but wonder if the ones between the cupboard would be enough to remove??

There are so many cabinets and drawers in the room which is only about 9' X 9' that it already looks dark and crowded in there so I think by taking the cornices out, it will make it a little lighter and more open. I can always put them back up if I don't like the look.

I know you did not ask for opinions, but since others gave theirs, mine is that I agree they make the room look heavy and dark.

I agree that the one, in particular between the cabinets, does that... And looks misplaced by being lower than the cabinets.

Barbie, I agree, take out and if you change your mind they should be just as easy to put back. It's your room!
