Washer Dryer for Coaches

On my BFOwners website I saw this post & thought it might be significant to some of you..so I'm sharing it.

One of our biggest surprises traveling in Europe with our Born Free last fall was the cost of the poor laundry facilities. Washing machines are very small & take forever. Dryers rarely got things really dry. So I decided to make an investment in a Wonder Washer & a Spin Dryer from the Laundry Alternative. They arrived yesterday & I have tried them both out & was quite impressed. The washer is about the size of a pail. The spin dryer is a little taller & thinner. We plan to store them in the cabinet under the stove. The spin dryer left the laundry mostly dry. It was quite remarkable. Today I washed some really dirty towels & they really came out clean. It only uses 6 qts. of water at its biggest capacity.

Anyhow the website is www.laundry-alternative.com

This may be the answer for many of us as the cost is reasonable & at least would pay for itself in a short time.
Just my input....hope it's helpful.

I checked these out and had some reservations. I would have liked the washer better if you didn't have to hand crank it for 2 or 3 minutes. Afraid my poor arm would fall off if I had more than one load to do. The dryer is a "spin" dryer so the clothes don't get completely dry so where would I hang them to finish drying? Most RV parks won't let you hang clothes outside. And I would still have to go to the laundry for my bedding.

For one person traveling it might be a good idea. However I have to agree that finding an RV park that will allow you to dry things outside is, well rare at best. Some parks don't even want you to dry pool or beach towels outside -- recommend using thier dryers. So, to do clothes to hang inside the shower to dry -- I'd not think it would be worth it. But, if it works for you...and at the park you are at...should be fine. Many new coaches now offer stack washer/dryer pairs, far better but heavy to haul. We just do laundry when we find an acceptably clean one wash house at a park when we are traveling.

I know 2 people who have these (and I think someone from this forum who doesn't post often has at least the dryer) - one says she does a load of laundry every day and sometimes that doesn't keep up. I do understand that they might be good for some folks. But I've even been dismayed when I used someone's washer dryer in their 5th wheel here. Could only run one or the other. So when wash finished, and you start dryer, you can't do another load until the dryer was done. Dryer took longer than a normal one in a laudromat to get the load dry, and the loads were less than 1/2 the size of a regular washer or dryer - so again, you need to do 2-3 loads for each normal (old normal - cuz in a newer laundramat, I'll use one of the front loaders that holds more often).

So, while these can have their uses, and one of the 2 people I know with them loves them - you have to know your limits and that this will work for you. I'm of the school that going once in a while and doing all my laundry in one fell swoop works for me. Now, if I was ever going to look at a 40 foot motorhome, I'd probably get one of those stackable rv washer dryers even with their pitfalls lol - but I don't see myself ever having anything that big :)

Good info, tho.
