They lost personal info on millions of people.
Go to their website to find out if you are affected. They offer free ID protection so get it even if you are OK.

No one knows how this is going to turn out. I read an article yesterday that said by signing up and maybe even by just checking to see if you've been compromised might leave you open to not being able to be a part of any class action suit in the future. It apparently has to do with what's in Equifax's terms and conditions. They said it might basically have wording that by going ahead with signing up for the ID protection or maybe even just seeing if you have a problem you might be agreeing to arbitration and unable to be part of any class action suits - one of which has already been filed. It's crazy. Makes one not know what to do,

Class action only makes money for lawyers.

I'm not so sure about that. A class action suit got me my job back after United Airlines forced only female flight attendants to leave their jobs when they got married. Through a class action suit I was reinstated at a grade and pay rate as if I had been working continually from the time I was forced to leave to when the suit was settled (15 years) and was also reinstated to the pension plan for all those years I didn't work for United due to their discriminatory rule. Believe me, I thank that class action suit every month when I receive my pension check.

Our news said Do Not Sign Up for Equifax credit monitoring because they said their experts were telling them you may give up your rights if you do end up with a problem!

I called this morning to put a fraud alert with the three credit reporting agencies. Reporting to one agency apparently requires that agency to notify the other two agencies. Rather than trust Equifax, I decided to call Experian first. Their phone tree did not offer the opportunity to set up a fraud alert. So I then called TransUnion and had no problem setting it up. It will last for 90 days and I've marked my calendar in December to set it up again. Apparently a fraud alert will require the credit reporting agency to contact you if someone applies for credit using your name, social security number and/or birthdate. I have no idea how one would stop a raid on a bank account, but at least this is one supposed line of defense against someone fraudulently setting up an account.

Good information, Sandi. I will call them tomorrow and set an alarm, just as you have done.
I dislike the idea of having to buy fraud insurance from the same company whose security allowed my personal information to be made available to hackers!!!
