Mexico Beach

Well it ain't Mexico, but it is Mexico Beach in Florida. This was my view from my front door.

As usual the place was crowded. This was taken during the day. Looking to the left

and to the right

However, there was no surf, usually its a crashing and abashing, very exciting, and there were no shells, of interest anyway. I came here one year and you could have used a dump truck to pick up beautiful shells and not made a dent in it. However that was in November, maybe a seasonal thing, or after a storm? So I moved onto my favorite boondocking spot, and for the first time in three years got rousted out of bed and told to move on. So now I'm "skulking". I drive to Walmarts, stay there the night, then drive back and spend from dawn to dusk here. I have my own little backyard and its so peaceful here (after I put the Generator off)

Glad to know you made it safely.
The photos are great and the quite sounds wonderful. Really a shame they are making you move to Wal-Mart at night.

Hey Sparkle?

Did they say anything about the rules changing? Seems funny that after 3yrs you would get the boot. Maybe they've changed the law?

Carol I believe that like me, Sparkle has an air card from her cell phone provider. The cost about $60 a month which isn't to far out of line compared to the cost of homebound internet but you can connect anywhere you can get a cell signal. Don't think I would want to do that out of country? If your cell phone provider charges more for your cell calls when your out of the country? They sure would for internet too. It would depend on whose tower you were bouncing off from.

I would love to get satellite internet!!!!!

It was an assy sherriff. I'm trying to find a Ranger, they drive by occasionally. Last year they told me they were glad to have me, it kept the party boys away.
Carol, I pay 110.00 a month to Verizon for unlimited Aircard access and 400 minutes of cell phone, of which i use 12, I'm not big on talking on the phone.

Tide's out. It's all sand, not mud.

Same view, tide is in. I love watching the tide come in here, you can actually see it and keep pace with it as it fills up the little gullies and ripples.

Further down at the beach. In 1988 I think, there was a storm and three fishermen were caught in it. they had on life-jackets, but two of them decided for safety to tie themselves to the boat. The boat sank, taking them down with it. The guy who didn't tie himself on popped to the surface and was later rescued.

There is a bird veiwing tower. This was one of President Carters favorite places to visit.

The view from the tower.

I remember when I spent several days there last year - thanks to Sparkle's excellent directions, as it is not easy to find if you don't know exactly where to look. And, yep, I was the only person there. Until the morning I was leaving, a bunch of trucks started driving through - turns out they were there to clean the place that day :) Offered me coffee and danish - and if I had hung around, there were going to cook lunch. They made a whole day out of the couple hours (if that) of work.

Hope you see a ranger and get permission to stay again.

Really hope you find that Ranger before dark. Such a grand place to be. I too always enjoyed watching the tides change. Maybe the next one will bring you some pretty shells to collect.

Sure is a beautiful, peaceful spot, Sparkle. Some sherrifs seem to think they need to 'exercise' their power, I think! That place looks like what the entire eastern coastline of FL looked like back in the early 60s....no condos, no nothing but sea grasses, dunes, and birds. And nobody ever kicked me off for quite a few years of overnighting anywhere in the dunes in my VW bus. Then they began knocking on the windows and telling me to move on! Sigh---so glad I got the best of times in FL!

Sparkle, that looks so serene. But that Sheriff, maybe just maybe has found out about your reputation and does'nt want you to dissapear into high tide or be responsible to have you towed while on his shift. He's watching you Sparkle ;)
But Sparkle do we really have to continue looking at the hand?
