Moving On down the road to PV

Postby asirimarco » Tue Feb 24, 2009 2:45 pm

Just some sights we saw along the way to PV. If you are getting bored let me know. I just love this country so much I want to share it with everyone.
I took a picture almost exactally like this of this church in 1978
Image
It is Villa Union just south of Mazatlan before you get on Mexico 15 again. This time we stopped and visited it.
Image
When you are driving by you don't always see what is there - lots and lots of signs - this is a grocery store queso is cheese pollo is chicken everything is priced in pesos by the kilo huevo grande is big eggs salchicha are weiners (these are turkey) the ATV is for sale
Image
this is a road sign you see quite often it says "don't leave stones on the pavement" why would it say that - well if you have a break down or accident and you don't have flares or emergancy signals you pile a stack of rocks ont he pavement about 50 feet away to warn on coming cars. When you get moving again you are supposed to remove the rocks

Just a building we passed
Image
A school house

Mango orchard
Image
Nopal - the cactus you eat field = its good to cook with
Image
Just what it says

One of the perks ofr the RV park here in Lo de Marcos
Image
The parks beach

This park is really "swank" a couple of pools, lots of grass, flowers, trees, futball court, vollyball court, a gym, beach access, a bar and restaurant. They also rent out rooms and bungalows. Getting in was a challange. Down a narrow cobblestone and holey road then a hard right turn. Had traffic stopped for a while and just made it. This a.m. a white pickup with yellow flames came in honking its horn - selling fresh baked bread out of the back of it. Also the vegetable truck with its palapa covering came through.
Yesterday we drove back up the mountain to Tepic for the day. Found out later that Tioga and George were there too.
If interested will post pictures of that later.
Bye for now. Carol

BORED! You've got to kidding! We can't wait for your reports. I think about them during the day and wonder what I'm going to see next. Would love to hear about Tioga George, I think most of us check on his blog. Did you visit? I proposed marriage to him once, he was tickled pink! Posted about it on his blog. (I was kidding)

Whose Bored?!!! This may be my only trip down there, at least that far. Please don't stop posting. I know its a lot of work, but its sooooo appreciated.
Yah, Sparkle, you were kidding  :D If you have pictures of Tioga George please post when you can.
I loved the church in this post also. Do you know when it was built? Beautiful inside. I love old churches. Anyone ever traveling I-70, and you like old churches, you have to stop at the "Cathedral of the Plains, in Victoria, Ks. You can see it from the interstate and I stopped with my 10 yr. old grandson, and he just ohhed and awww all the way through it.

Thanks for all of the post & pics

Carol, we are all ooohing and aaaahing over all your posts - looking for them every day! Don't you date stop. And, I must admit, I'm going to be afraid to be on the road again, cuz I know I won't be doing the great job you are of showing us everything. I'm in awe of your not just having this wonderful trip, but really in awe that you spend so much time doing these chronicals for us. Please don't stop.

Never will be bored with your posts, Carol. You do a wonderful job of bringing the full range of culture to us and your pictures are beautiful. I love the ones of the hammocks and the beach. That church is amazing. And, is that a satellite dish atop that teeny schoolhouse?

No one is bored. I love your trip and admire your courage. I would be afraid to go half the places you guys are going. The driving condition not the people. When I lived in San Diego I loved Tijuana. I found the people warm and friendly if you didn't act like the Ugly American. I get really annoyed with people who want to kick out all the Mexicans from the US. Do you know what you'd pay for a tomato if they didn't come and do our picking. Why does no one get mad at the farmers who pay the Mexican workers half (if that) of what they would have to pay US citizens? The workers have no insurance, half the time no bathroom facilities and the farmers even allow young children to work in the fields. We used to take food and clothing to the migrant workers in the fields and the children broke my heart. You can talk about the illegals all you want but its US farmers who are hiring them. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.

Karen I agree with you. People are always talking about the criminals who come in, but most of them are decent people just wanting to make a living. And having experienced the Immigration system personally, I can understand why they are illegal. If I hadn't spoken and understood English and had some computer savvy I would have been in a mess legally. Immigration was wrong, but I was the one who had to prove it.

Keep them coming (the pics) Just love to see your travels. When you travel to Mexico, do you do it on your own or in a caravan? I've loved Mexico also since I've been there and would love to go back again.

Life's good, keep smiling :)
