Grab & Go...

I have been thinking about this for a long time and I keep forgetting to make a post about it... I was wondering how many of you have a grab-and-go bag for emergencies... this is the time of year last year at Hardee lakes that we had the tornado warning and had to go to the bathroom for a couple hours... we were lucky but I'm thinking that maybe I should maybe everybody should even in your house because of the tornado warnings we had last week in Central Florida... have a bag made up if you could just Grab & Go... if you have one of these how about posting what you have in it if you don't have one of these how about posting what you think you should have in it I'm going to make one I have a Pittsburgh Steelers backpack with the black and gold logo on the front large enough for me to see it easily and just grab it and go input will be very interesting...

Good question, Donna! With the tornado warning being just north of me last week, I decided to 'pack up'. I don't have an always ready bag, but I do have a small fireproof box with things like passport, vehicle titles and computer backup in it along with some jewelry. I grabbed all cash, my 'metal wallet' with credit cards, driver's license etc., my meds, any other jewelry to put in the box. I hope I would have thought to grab all my key rings on the way out the door.

I've always had emergency supplies ready to go, or already permanently stored in my vehicle... all those years as a firefighter/medic built that into me.

Living in California, I have backpacks with 3-days' supply of emergency items in case of a severe earthquake. One in my house and one in my car. A couple years ago I was in Missouri and there were tornado warnings constantly going off one night. I found it so different from the occasional strong earthquake we get here every 20-30 years. But in Missouri, I made sure to put together and put by the RV door what I would need for myself and my dogs in case I had to head to more fortified conditions. I learned from that experience. It's definitely something we all need to do especially considering where we live and will be traveling.

Thanks everybody for all this input I totally agree that we need this especially people who are traveling but you really needed in your home too if you stop and think about it... I was wondering if you could list some of the things that you put in your grab-and-go thanks

I have a bag in my hall closet with a set of extra clothes, personal hygiene items, crank flashlight etc. should add some non perishable snacks to it too. Can grab it if I need it in case of emergency.

Mine is stocked with emergency medical equipment, nasty tasting Power Bars (they last forever), water filter, dust mask, spare money and keys, a flashlight, and some clothes. In the truck I always keep a sleeping bag and spare tent. If I have to grab and go I also have my lock box with important papers and additional cash ready to go.

A good thing to always have ready. Add spare batteries, medications and if you have room a cheap fleece throw that you can roll up small enough to fit and first aid stuff.

Living in "earthquake country" most of us are prepared in some way for evacuation. I always had a backpack in the car, too, with jeans, sweatshirt, sneakers & socks; flashlight, energy bar, and water. I also have a 3 lb coffee can with some t.p. in my trunk - you never know when you will be stuck on the highway in a vehicle with no bathroom!

No sense getting too uptight or stressed about being prepared. Just do what we can. I figure I'll probably be in Walmart or Lowes when the emergency happens and my nicely packed emergency supplies will be buried in the rubble at home! But I'll have my coffee can and t.p. in the parking lot!
