finally some good news on my brother.............he got to go home today
for those of you that don't know, here is a link to the original post

in short, he had a stroke on christmas day. He finally got to go home
today, although he is still healing he can talk fine. The stroke caused
damage to his left side, he can shrug his left shoulder a little, and he
has a little movement in his left leg. He has to go back 3 times a week
for rehab, and he did fall a few times at the hospital thinking he could
do something but then find out he couldn't. Yesterday they taught him
how to transfer himself from his wheelchair into the car seat to ride home.
He also is diabetic now and they found out his wife is also diabetic too
so at least meal plans will be the same for both of them. He had lost
20 lbs last week but they wanted him to loose more, he was way over
weight.
Hope just getting out of the hospital and home in familiar surroundings
he will continue to work on his recovery. Prayers are working, thanks
for all of yours.

That is great news! I hope he continues his recovery at home faster than ever!

Oh, I'm so glad he's home now and doing so well. Also glad they found out about the diabetes for both him and his wife. Hope they take that seriously.

Ava, I am so glad to hear the good news. Prayers will continue for him to get better each day.. Thanks for the update. Glad the diabeties was found, now hopefully he and his wife will both have healthier lives.

What wonderful news. He (and his wife) still have a long way to go - but it's got to feel so much better now. And I'm sure he'll be so much happier at home.

Glad to hear such good news. He's probably been diabetic for a while especially if he was overweight. Losing weight will help a lot with the diabetes.

Sounds as if they are both heading in the right direction. We will all be thinking of them and send prayers for their strength to continue this journey together. I know of a site that may be interesting and useful - I found out about it by following the health issues of my cousin's SIL. It is called www.CaringBridge.org - one of those sites that you hope no family needs. A family member can maintain a blog to update the rest of the family and friends regarding care and progress and family and friends can post messages back. Sounds as if it has been very helpful to their young family. Check it out and hope you don't need it in the future.

Ava, that's wonderful news. I'm really happy that he can talk ... loss of language can be the MOST frustrating for the person with a stroke as well as caregivers.

great news! thanks for the update. I'm so glad he's home now, that will be a big morale boost for him.

My daughter's best friend, in Valdez, Alaska, swerved to miss a porcupine and rolled her car, which ended up breaking her neck. She is now paralized pretty much from the waist down. Her family posted on Caring Bridge and it was really nice to get updates and leave messages without having everyone having to bother the family with the same questions.
