Love my Apple Store and the Apple Genius Techies. Took my 4+ year old laptop in because I figured out that most of my problems trying to set up the ability upload my photos so that I can eventually post some pics here (along with being able to simply resize pics for e-mail to my English Cocker Fanciers Forum and friends - so there are no groans from the dial-up folks)....all centered from the age of my operating system. The bad news - I still have to pay that tax bill I found out about yesterday, but the good news - I was able to upgrade the operating system for my iBook and upgrade my iMove and iPhoto software !!!! without having to spend money on a new laptop right now. So happy, I am. The techie helped load the new operating system and talked me through the software upgrades. She even cheated just a little since the Leopard upgrade that my computer was able to take is able to run iPhoto '09 but only iMove '06. She let me load a store copy of the '06 iMovie since I had purchased the Software bundle that included iPhoto '09 and iMovie '09 (which would not have been able to run on this 'puter.) So I am up to speed on photo software.... just I little behind on movies. Now Beth, maybe I have a chance......Look for pictures sometime in the near future. Oh yeah, I had to sit around the store waiting for the software to load. So I got to play around on their computers and went ahead and signed up for several of their free tutorials some of which are hands ons.

I love it when a plan comes together. Sorry about that crummy tax bill though. Maybe we'll all get a Stimulous Check and you'll get it back!

I do love the Macs and staff at our local mac shop as well. Glad you were able to get by with the OS upgrade; unlike PCs four years is not all that old for a Mac.
Looking forward to your photos.
Will keep fingers crossed that Sparkle is right about you getting that Stimulous Check to off set the taxes.

hmmmm...... life of more than 4 years for a mac? ..... I may be in the wrong store! I know that people that have them rave about them but I've never tried one even in demo. OK,... before next purchase I will check out Mac! Is it true that there is less chance of virus/spam, etc. with a Mac? very tempting.

Good deal! So glad you were able to upgrade and not buy completely new.
Cedar, yes, there are less viruses, etc associated with Mac's. However one reason is that the people who spend the time to create the viruses are going for the biggest kick - and therefore Windows. But, it is unusually for a virus to hit a Mac.

And yes again on the less virus stuff. I had worked on both macs and pc in the educational setting with no strong feeling either way at work except that when they first can out Apple had much better educational software. But of course PCs caught up. I came by the Mac on the recommendation of the son who works in Branding and Marketing and is also an avid Photographer. He stated the less virus stuff and also said that it was more intuitive to work in. Knowing that my son is more right brained than left....that told me something. My DH has his PC in his office and a laptop. He has reminded me that his computers don't cost as much.......but I like the product that I have. And I am definitely amazed and impressed with the service I received yesterday.

True, PCs are less expensive initially but over time I've found the Mac requires much less maintenance, fewer problems, almost no down time, keep going many years longer than PCs. I've used both and don't think I'd ever consider buying a PC again. Macs are also outstanding for graphics, photography, etc..
Both Macs and PCs do get "old" beyond being upgradable for internet use but by then the PC is usually on its last leg while the Mac is still chugging along. Case in point, I have a Mac from 1989 hooked up in my garage/warehouse which I still use for antiques business. Keep my inventory data on it and print all my sale tags.
Yes, most of us who have Macs are really nuts about them.
