Just looked at my checking account online and there is a $90.00 deposit from Social Security.
Anyone else have a surprise this month? I have no idea what it is for and really don't want to ask them for fear it's a mistake! Also considering the humongous increase in SS for 2017 I don't care if I screw them out of $90.

..
I'll let you know when mine arrives next week (I think...)
But we are lucky and blessed - we are getting a .3% increase next year! YAY Uncle Same. Thank you.
Oh, it beats a slap in the face, that's for sure.

I got a surprise deposit of $32.40 on October 7, and I also have no idea why!! However, I just did a search on the Internet and found someone else had the same thing happen. No reason why. Never happened before.
So, let me know if you find out.
Which reminds me. I got a check for $270 sent to me from the State of Ohio in August. I have to estimate state income tax, so I probably owe it back. Need to call them.
As the King said in The King and I, it is a puzzlement!

No surprise deposit for me.
I just did a couple of searches to see if any info out there about an extra check. Did not find anything for this year but something like that did happen in 2001 when an error was discovered in a calculation.

Received a letter from SS today....question answered. They had miscalculated my SS payment. The 90 is a refund for the last nine months and I will start to receive another $10 on my SS check every month,

Well ladies, don't give up. DH just received a letter today and they had underestimated his SS too. He received $77 and will get more on his SS check every month too.

Makes you wonder how many more of us they have "miscalculated" our checks. With our raise next year I'm gonna buy an extra loaf of bread.

I got a letter a month or so age referring to an adjustment to my SS. Since I didn't pay into SS most of my working years they take what little I am eligible for and apply it against what Part B costs. I get to pay the difference to the government plus pay the premiums on the State Teacher's Retirement Insurance plan for us retired educators eligible for Medicare. I have always been very thankful to have been covered by insurance since I started working but the increases in cost are unbelievable and not the fault of any one administration. I sat on too many "insurance" committees in those last years and listened to the proposed rate increases depending upon Plan A, Plan B, or Plan C. We were always told that the only way to keep the premiums down was to increase deductibles, quit covering some procedures, etc, etc...... I guess if I had stock in the insurance companies I would look at this differently.
Anyway.....I get a few dollars more but will never see it. I am thinking of looking at other plans outside the STRS advantage plan offered. With all of the cost savings changes they send us e-mails on at some point I think that we will or have lost any cost advantage of purchasing coverage through STRS Ohio. At least I am able to use my insurance anywhere I travel. That was the first question I asked.
