All Florida State Parks Closed due to Hurricane Matthew

I got a call a couple of hours ago telling me my reservation at O'Leon State Park near Lake City, FL, had been cancelled since the park was closing. I called the Florida State Parks Customer service number and was told that ALL Florida state parks were closing until Monday, October 9th. And no guarantees any individuals parks would open even then. This is true even for campgrounds on the Panhandle.

So the only thing available for tomorrow at where I am staying was a walk-in site. This means we had to leave our site with the great view and move to a site not quite so nice, BUT at least we have power and a satellite signal so we can watch TV and see what is happening. We can stay here as long as we need to, but my friend needs to get back to NY and was flying out on Saturday, which I think is not likely.

Closing all parks is really going to make it difficult for people to find a place to stay, so I can imagine they also will be heading north into Georgia.

Yes, the whole state which does not make sense since the panhandle did not even get any rain or winds!!!

Some of the Florida State Parks are now open for walk-ins, even if it does not look like it on Reserve America. I am Lake Louisa right now and planning to head to Jonathan Dickinson tomorrow.

The lady at the customer service line for Florida State Parks is clueless about what is open and what is closed, so I just started calling the parks directly.
