Lake Tahoe - Crystal Clear

I felt bad a few weeks ago when JudyJB posted that the water in Lake Tahoe was so dirty. I just couldn't imagine that was the case since the lake is known for its clarity. I decided not to comment until I got here and could see for myself. With the drought in California I wasn't sure if that might have changed things. What Judy saw was a brownish color seen more in the later morning and afternoon and extending out maybe 200 yds. from the beach. The brown color is the sand on the bottom showing through the clear water. You can even see a few rocks. I watched a man walk out 150-200 yds. and he was still only waist deep. That shows the lake level is down. Beyond there the water looks an aqua color as it gets deeper. Even farther out the water is a beautiful deep blue at its deepest. You could put the Empire State Building at the deepest part and you wouldn't be able to see it. As the sun rises you can see right to the bottom and the sand in the shallow area near the beach. I'd post a picture but I'm out of data.

So Judy, come back to Lake Tahoe for a swim. The water's crystal clear as always.

I was at the very south end of the lake, where the city of South Lake Tahoe is, so was referring only to that area in the town. The muddy part where you could not see wader's feet was in that southern area, but you could see it was blue and clear farther out and away from that area. It was not just sand on the bottom--you could not see anything of people swimming that was in the water. It was definitely muddy.

Next time I go to Lake Tahoe it will be to one of the campgrounds farther north where the water is clear.

That's exactly where I am Judy. The water is not muddy. I can see rocks on the bottom and the water is clear all the way out from the beach and you can see the sand on the bottom. I don't want to argue with you. I just don't want people to get the wrong impression.

My car has the "special license plate". SAVE LAKE TAHOE. Every little bit helps. Lyn
