RIP Prince

Just found out that Prince has died. He lived just a few miles from me. I have never been a big fan of his music but he has done a lot of good things locally for people. I am sure he will be much missed by his huge fan base. No news on what caused his death yet. He was only 57.

I saw that a short while ago on FB. Sad mystery at moment. There was something about his having flu which sounded bogus to me. Interesting you are/were neighbors.

I can't believe he is gone either. I read that he was returning home and his plane had to make an emergency landing. He was taken to the hospital with very preliminary reports of the "flu" or pneumonia. We'll just have to wait and see. So sad.

Good to see you posting again Mickie.

Paisley Park (his recording studio) is about 7 miles south of me. I go by there quite a bit. I heard there is a major traffic jam there now with fans converging there to pay their respects.

I saw him more than once in clubs, well one club, in Minneapolis, both before he became famous and after (he continued to pop in there after, but those were surprise appearances). If I remember correctly he owned that club. He was a very talented man.

I haven't heard anything about the plane story; he was found dead in his home. He did leave a concert a couple weeks ago because of the flu, but he's played since then. I'm almost afraid to hear what the real story is. But I do know all these talented people leaving us one after the other this year has to stop!

Beth, that place is called First Avenue, downtown Minneapolis. They are having an all-night dance party there tonight in honor of him. He got his start there and did own it for awhile.

He did a concert in Atlanta a couple weeks ago and then flew back to MN but his plane made an emergency landing in Illinois because he was very ill and was admitted to a hospital there. It will be interesting to find out why he died. He will be missed. He was very much loved by Minnesotans.

Sitting here listening to his music, very much a soundtrack in my life. Fell in love with "When Doves Cry" playing in the background. Bittersweet.

It was downtown, but the name doesn't sound right. But we are talking almost 40 years ago, so could have been it. I didn't spend much time there as it wasn't one of my favored clubs, but I did enjoy seeing him. I hate that it takes his death for me to remember this.

Beth, it was Uncle Sam's before the name changed in 1982 to First Avenue. Does that sound more familiar?

Yes, that was it! I was gone from Minneapolis by 1982. (There 1977-80).

Did you hear about the tv station which accidentally played Fresh Prince ( of BelAir) videos instead of Prince videos? Oops sorry he's gone but I have never heard his music as I haven't listened to radio much in over 20 years.
