A Lesson in Tenacity

Today I was strolling along a strip mall that only had two stores left - one on each end. As I glanced in the windows of the 4 empty stores in between them, I noticed that each had a section of the cement floor torn up and was just dirt. Behind one store's window was a weed growing in the dirt! It was about 15" high and covered with pretty purple flowers. Now think about that for a minute. It had no water, it was definitely out of its environment, alone, unattended, but not only did it struggle to live, but it flowered!

I thought that was a pretty good life lesson. How often do we feel out of our element, our environment, our comfort zone, and feel alone, perhaps unable to cope, un-nourished. That weed sends a life lesson about tenacity.

Okay, enough of the philosophy.

I LOVE it, Pooker!

Sure do wish you had had a camera to take a picture of that statement of the tenacity of life!

My father was a Landscape Gardener. He always told me that there were no weeds...just plants growing where they shouldn't.

Loved this one. I've always gathered seeds when I was traveling, most from "weeds" and I would throw them in my yard at home. Amazing what would come up with very little, if any, attention.

My Dad was full of pithy sayings. If something was sour he would say, that would draw your arse to your elbow. Now try to touch your ass with your elbow and you'll see just how sour it was.  Excuse the language, he was an old Scottish country lad.

Pooker, that's so true. When I was in NH, I marveled at the trees that grew out of rock - where did their roots go? Have never gotten an explanation that really explained it well to me - like your flower in the mall (and I do agree that there are really no weeds - some are just plants that us humans find unacceptable).

This reminded me of a picture of tenacity....

This was taken on Beartooth Pass between MT and Yellowstone in 2004.

Kinda goes along with the saying 'bloom where you are planted'.
Thanks for sharing the picture and the verse.

Love that idea.

And it's true for our whole lives for the most part. We need struggle to bloom who ever and where ever we are.
