Haven't completely thrown out possibility of going to Gettysburg this year, might be fall rather than spring, but need some advise from those of you familiar with PA roads and maybe even OH roads. I want to avoid the PA turnpike of course, so am looking at routes. Right now might be along I-80 and angle down. But also want to avoid any steep mountain passes that might be along the routes. Anybody have any suggestions. Will probably go down so I get onto Highway 30 and go into Gettysburg that way. Mix of I-8-, 522, 22, I-99 etc. Thanks.

Sue, if you drop down off of I80, there are a few ways to get to G-Burg. I-99 runs from Bedford to Bellefonte so if you go to Blfnt and pick up 99 to Bedford then pick up 30 aka Lincoln Highway to G-Burg. 322 is also near here and would take you thru Harrisburg or you could pick up 11-15 before you get to Harrisburg. You would have to go over 7 Mountains on 322 but it's not too bad! 522 I've been on but not a whole lot of it! I think it goes thru a fair amount of rural areas. iF it were me I would go 322 out of State College to I think, 36 (Newport) to Carlisle and pick up 11-15 to G-Burg. Out of Newport it's a 2 lane and does go thru some mountain area but not bad. I hope I have the route numbers right! I've made that trip to Harrisburg and beyond so many times I don't pay much attention to numbers anymore! I haven't looked at any maps so this is just off the top of my head!!! (I travel 99, 80 and 322 all the time since they are in my backyard!)

Thanks Sharon, some of those routes were some I was looking at too. Will be doing more research. Looking at facts, figures etc. part of my problem is that at the moment I am driving a leased truck and my mileage is creeping up there. It costs me for every mile I go over what I am leased for. So it's one reason I'm sort of sticking close to home, although the travel bug is biting me. Wil see what I come up with. This would ven be a good fall trip.
