Report on Gulfport, MS

Postby rvgrammy1953 » Thu Feb 05, 2009 3:39 pm

Hey, ya'll!! Okay, now that we are all rested up from the drive from Texas, am ready to give you the tour so far and the fun things to do here. But remember, we've only been here 2 days and are spending the whole month here, so I may add more stuff later... ;)

Our main reason to come here was to check out the new Navy RV Park/campground....This was a popular place before Katrina for the military to stay at and they really didn't have alot of damage, but it gave them a good reason to re-do the park in another location and use the old park for new housing for the Navy families. Plus, we've heard alot about Gulfport as a place to enjoy the gulf coast and to play at the casinos....So here we are!!

Home Sweet Home ;)
The new park is located right inside the main gate to the Navy base.

Here are a few photos of the park.

I didn't know that Jeff Davis had a home here. It is also along US 90.

And of course, can't come to an area that has resorts and casinos without checking them out. And yes, I won on the slots today! ;) came home $20 ahead...
This is the entry to the Beau Rivage resort/casino.

Someone asked if there is still a cemetary here on base. Well, there is one, but it isn't on base. It is just on the other side of the fence. I can see it from our window.... :o
Okay........enjoy everyone.....We really like it here...

Enjoyed report #1; waiting for the next one.
Think it has been at least 20 years since I was last in Gulfport; sure I wouldn't recognize anything these days.

Looks like another place for Evie and I to go.....casinos!

Hmmm...what to do today? Beach? Casino? Tough choices you'll have to make.

Looks like that fishing pier took a hard hit from Katrina. So there's a Beau Rivage there,.... I think there was one in Biloxi when I was at casinos there pre-Katrina. Most of the casinos ended up on the inland side of 90 then. Is that casino on land or on a "boat" ... I had heard that MS was going to change state law to allow them on land after Katrina.

Wasn't it Gulfport that had all the UFO sightings a while back. Have a Tequilla Lori and tell us what you see.

So far, all the casinos we've seen are on land with big resort hotels.....Haven't seen any UFOs lately, but haven't had any adult beverages since the Karaoke nite in Port A.... .....Still too cold for the beach, but have Ernie convinced to go to the casino again real soon ;)

Great pictures. Looks like a good place to hang out for awhile.
Haven't been near that area, maybe on the way home we'll go that way. So much we haven't seen of the USofA.
More pictures!

Too cold for the beach. Awwww, you left here too soon - walked the beach yesterday in shorts and tshirt :). Today, we're going into a high wind advisory, but Peaches and I just did a couple mile walk first, then will do another after. Upper 70's for the next couple days for a high.

Ok all don't slap me - it's why I'm where I am.

Thanks for the pics, Lori - hope this weather follows to there. Although if you can come out a winner every time, maybe you'd rather be in the casinos.
