Thanks so much for the sweet birthday cake and wishes.
I don't know why, but turning 60 has been a big paradigm shift for me. I keep telling people that I'm too young to be this old!
But it's been a nice few days. Had dinner with several good friends on Saturday (when we could all relax and enjoy a later night), and then today at school a bunch of the 8th grade girls who eat lunch with me (I teach 6th grade, but have known these kids for the past 2+ years) threw a wonderful little party, complete with 2 pies and a birthday cake! The biggest gift they gave me was watching them really think about someone other than themselves -- something that comes with growing older. It was truly sweet.
And my birthday celebration will continue this weekend, with a trip to Yosemite.
We're leaving straight from school on Thursday, make it to the Valley by lunch on Friday, and then race home on Monday. But we'll have 2 1/2 days in the place where my soul feels renewed and refreshed like no other. The dogs will stay home, well-cared for by a dear, dear friend, so we won't have to worry about them being cooped up while we're out exploring.
So, thanks again for the lovely wishes. It really is nice to be remembered.
