How's the color on the North Shore?

I'm headed out tomorrow morning for a week on the north shore of Superior. The plan is to spend the night in Duluth, then head up hwy. 61 to Grand Marais on Sunday. You never know how the fall color is going to be. Five years ago, my late hubby and I hit it just right and it was beyond gorgeous, a couple of years later during the same time frame, not so much. Oh well, even if it's not prime, the trip will be a great time with friends. After this trip, I've got a 4-day weekend planned for late October, then it will be time to put the camper to bed for the winter. I've had a pretty successful first season with my new rig. It's not as much fun as camping with my late hubby, but I think he'd be proud or how well I'm doing with the new trailer.

Leaves are barely starting to turn, not prime time yet. But the good news is the weather is supposed to be nice all of next week. Lake Superior is beautiful, have a great trip.

All these cruise lines have been taking people of fall color tours here in New England and the Maritimes, but no color here at all! I think they really call them fall cruises, but the intent is to see color. Still very much like summer with hot days, also, and this place is very far north!

Well, the color is not prime, but the weather is fantastic! Lake Superior is spectacular as always. I found out I can tow my little home on wheels through a city (St. Paul and Duluth anyway) and I got backed in to a narrow, tree-lined site that was right angle to the road with little difficulty. Still missing my late hubby, but I am figuring out that I will still be able to have some fun traveling after all. Life will be better than I thought it would be.

My ex-h and I with kids drove around Lake Superior way back in the early 80s. I would love to do it again some summer. Gorgeous places, especially the little rocky streams that dump into the lake.

Driving through Maine today I noticed just the beginnings of some fall color. Temperatures are cooler now, but there have not been the nighttime frosts that good color requires. Should be nice in a couple of weeks, however.
