This shouldn't affect some of us going to Shipshewana, but am posting here in case anyone is going thru Indiana heading south. It's notice I received today from Rand McNally.

Dear Rand McNally customers:

Rand McNally has released a construction file to the Dock to reflect the ongoing closure of the northbound I-65 bridge between Lebanon and Lafayette. The Indiana Department of Transportation recently announced that the bridge will not reopen until mid-September.

INDOT engineers closed the bridge on August 7th due to structural issues and were originally unsure of when it would reopen.

To get the construction update on your GPS device, you must connect to the Rand McNally Dock. To update tablets, connect to Wi-Fi. As a reminder, connect your GPS device to the Dock once a month to receive ongoing construction information provided by Rand McNally

Thank you,

The Rand McNally Support Team

I find it interesting your GPS came with a dock. Our Magellan did not but Mel has updated via his laptop. What GPD do you have?

I have a Rand McNally 7735. There really isn't a dock. The application installed on my laptop checks for updates everyday. The dock itself is really the online update to the GPS thru USB.

That makes sense, so do you plug your GPS into the laptop regularly then to load updates? We are looking at a new gps because ours is 7 yrs old this month we realized and though updated several times, it's pretty much beyond updates.

I've probably done 3 actual updates since I bought it in the Spring. From what displays on the screen, it looks like it checks thousands of files. When I do updates, it looks like it checks everything, and then just makes everything up-to-date.

Supposedly, you can also plan routes and download your specifics, but I haven't done that yet. You can change settings from car only to RV and it may give you different routes. I keep mine in RV mode all the time because I want to see how accurate it is. You can also report changes directly to Rand which I've done twice so far. Once, when it didn't warn me that bridge of Mississippi was actually only 7'6" (thank goodness I wasn't towing at the time), and once when it thought it was on farm roads and I was actually on a brand new 4 land highway.

So far I like it, but still have my old Magellan in use at the same time, just to see what different. Bought the Rand because my Magellan can't be updated anymore.
