For Grammy & Maggie: The Secret

The Secret
We have a secret, you and I
that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie
each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand
before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you
and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths
and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind
so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
in every brook I pass
and when I call, no one but I
can see the bending grass.

Donna:
My heart goes out to you at this terrible time; I too shed tears for you and your sweet Maggie, although we have never met.
I know this special pain all too well.
When these more-than-family loved ones leave us, they take away with them a part of our heart; a part that we never get back. But we give it freely, because we give them - and they us - all that it is possible to give.
Even as we bid fare well.
Although I know that this terrible emptiness will never be filled, it will - with time - become bearable.
Although the road to that day may be a long one.
I pray that on that far-off day you may then look back to your little Maggie with joy, rather than with sorrow.
My sincerest condolences to you.
Anne
