On a trip in Arizona in March, I called a Walmart and was told overnight parking was OK. When I got there, I decided to doublecheck, went inside and was directed to a woman whom I asked. She seemed hesitant but said yes. Being wary, I asked if there was anyone else who would know for sure. They told me to ask this guy and he said no parking was allowed. He was completely uninterested when I told him his employees had said it was OK and maybe he should make them aware of the rule.

How do you make sure it's OK? I'm thinking of staying at the Walmart in Yreka, CA on my way to the Oregon GTG. After the prior experience, I doubt calling can give me a definitive answer. Any ideas?

Sandi, I have used both the phone call ahead of time and the walk in and ask at the service desk. If I get an answer of yes, I don't question it I just park. The Allstay app also gives some dates and responses that other people who have parked have discovered. Some clearly state that parking is no longer permitted. I have been told "No" when going in to ask, in which cass I keep driving. If told yes and somehow that was wrong, the worst thing that would probably happen is to have the police knock on the door and tell me to move. I could live through that.

You can also get a feel for the rules by looking around the lot. Seldom have I been the only rig in sight. Look for RVs and/or semis parked around the edges of the lot.

When I have called ahead, only one time did the person have to ask someone else. In store I have asked clerks or anyone else handy. They have all said it was okay and told the area I should park in.

I wish I could remember what city it was. I'm pretty sure it was between Flagstaff and Kingman. Not down near Salome or Q.

I usually ask for the manager. Sometimes the clerk asks what it is about I tell them, they either answer, ask the manager or put the manager on the phone. I usually get the name of the person I spoke to, prevents future problems.

There is a Yahoo group that has all of the Walmarts listed that people have stayed at and reported as a yes or no. The guy that started it did a great spreadsheet listed by state. Free to join the group, info changes all of the time and he's really good at keeping it up dated.
