anyone been to Maine?

Been thinking about going to Maine this trip. I read on some other forums that Route 2 across Maine is a good way. Has anyone made that trek and what route did you take. I am leaving out of southeastern PA and thinking about entering into NY by way of the Finger Lakes.

I would be going up through the western side of New York coast and cutting across the top of Vermont and New Hampshire, wanting to avoid the tolls and tunnels, parkways and other things not RV friendly! Also Not wanting to enter into Canada.

It's a toss up, DH wants to go back to South Dakota and see everything we missed when we "blew" by last year.

We need to put the hard wired 30 amp Progressive surge protector on first and also the Safe T Plus steering control just came in the mail so DH will have to put that on too. So....I have a little time to plan.

I haven't been to Maine but I have been to South Dakota. For me especially during the summer months I would like the weather in Maine a lot more than SD. :)

I believe we're cooler in SD right now than Maine. :-)

I've been to Maine. Went in from New Hampshire that trip, out to Pennsylvania, but too long ago to remember the roads without looking it up. I zig zag according to what I want to see. Then change directions often as I find other things too see and do.

I have never been to Maine, but I am also going there in August. I'm cutting across from NY from Ticonderoga to Burlington, and then to Freeport, Bar Harbor, and Huntington. After that I am headed to the Canadian Maritimes. I have no idea what the best route is, or even what route I will be taking, so am willing to accept suggestions.

I have been that route into Maine…nice route. This time we came up from Massachusetts and are currently in Wells on Rte 1. We'll be here a couple weeks and are taking the ferry from Portland to Nova Scotia. If you plan to come in July-August it is best to try to get cg reservations ahead of time, especially for Bar Harbor area. we are lucky to be here in the shoulder season this year.
