Another great tour, Liz.
I had to look up what the widow might have been harvesting from the live oak trees thinking it might be something other than acorns. Must have been acorns as that was all I found.

Liz, are you saying that even today the horses are dying of parasites and disease? Why would anyone let that happen? Nice tour. Pretty place with lots of history.

very interesting!! I've seen that house ruins used in a movie years ago, can't remember the name of the movie but with the special fx it showed the smoldering ruins. A place I'd like to see if and when I make my way that direction. Sorry to hear the horses are not getting care, but perhaps as the years go by something will put in place to see that problem solved.

The trees were harvested for the wood, Sarah…as in cut down. :D

Unfortunately yes, Velda. The horses are left to nature just as all the rest of the wild animals on the island. However, scientists are studying them, their behavior, doing census, etc., so perhaps a management plan is being considered.

I suppose because it's an island they can leave them to disease because they can't spread it to other domestic animals but it is awful, for sure.
