Record snowfall in Huntsville, AL

I know most of you live in areas where snow is common it is not a big deal.. For us southerners, where snow equipment consists of a few dump trucks loaded with sand and a couple of guys in back with shovels to spread it, snow is a big deal and typically shuts everything down for a day or two before it melts. Huntsville's snow Wednesday evening into Thursday morning set a Feb record (depending on what area of city, 9 to 12 inches).
My niece sent me a picture of her back yard Thursday morning

a former coworker took this photo at the veterans memorial in downtown Wednesday evening

I do have to admit it is beautiful but glad to see it from FL even if cold here. BTW: Huntsville's snow should all be gone by Saturday and most of the main roads were open at least for a while today.

That is impressive indeed. Winters are sure different recently. I can remember in the mid 60's sitting at night in the dorm in northern CA making bets on when the rain water would be high enough to reach the bikes in their stands and the next day wading though the water which covered the shoe part of our boots and sometimes as much as 6 inches. Now we don't get even 8 inches a year!

Wow that looks like my back yard.

As you stated, the real difference is we up north have the toys to clean up the mess.

The snow is pretty but I would want to be viewing it from Florida too. I think the last time we even got an inch of snow was about 2000. Your description of our snow removal equipment is right on. They closed the schools and government offices and it didn't even get close to freezing here.

Sarah, I saw this on the news and immediately thought of you. I'm so you're glad you're here in FL and not putting up with that there.

That is a big snowstorm even by our standards here in MN! At least it melts quickly down there. We haven't had that much snow here all season yet.

My sister in Duncan, OK has approx 5" of snow with continuing stuff falling. Current temps about 28*. They are close to shutdown. The oily's keep the stuff pounded down during the day, but freezes at night. Farmers use tractor feed cattle...boo cold!
