Thank you so much for the birthday wishes ladies. I also saw all those that posted on FB.
I had the magic "get your National Park Senior Pass" birthday which opens the gates to the wonders of our parks several years ago. Such a great event.
This year's birthday was the one that requires all the work and research. Your mailbox is jammed with advertisements for 6 months with advertisements for supplements for "Medicare". As the spouse of a retired member of the Air Force, any snafu's with applying and getting Medicare approval will result in the loss of Tricare benefits so that is a big anchor hanging over one's head until the card is received. On the other hand, getting Medicare also means you go on Tricare for Life which sounds good but actually means that you probably won't be able to continue seeing the military doctor who has been your primary care doctor for a while. Oh, and the really exciting part is that you are cut off at the beginning of the month your birthday falls in not your actual birthday. So......those tests your doctor sent you to the lab for the end of January, you won't be able to see her to get the results. Intelligent arrangement, right??
Then, you need to make sure you get the new Driver's License. And, even though you had to get a new Military I.D. card three months ago, you have to get another new one so they can change something on the back of it. Intelligent arrangement, right??
So what are the upsides here? Well, I am still alive and in pretty good health, I planned well and have decent retirement income, I already have a great RV. It's getting easier to tell my DH that I'm going RVing even if he doesn't want to go (he doesn't...smart comments about sitting in a box instead of his comfy recliner). lol.
Something happens with the Texas State Park Pass at 65 although it is nothing like the magic the National Park Senior Pass brings. I'm going to have to check into that now that the big stuff is out of the way.
Most of the other discounts for "Seniors" are available well before 65. What else am I missing here ladies who have already trod this path?
All the preliminary events almost make the actual "birth day" anticlimatic in a a way. In any case, I am overwhelmed with all the birthday wishes received on FB, here, by phone, and by mail. And the big birthday party my son is throwing on Saturday is yet to come. It will be another great day. Thanks again all.
