RV Shows

I went to a couple small RV shows last year in SC & NC & MN. This year since I am home, I think I will hit the MPLS RV show next week. I did not have any luck finding a used RV these past few months, so hoping some of the dealers at the show will have something come in this spring or summer. I am looking forward to seeing all the great new RV's - Is there anything I should really pay attention to while at the show? They do have a couple shows that I will take in that sound interesting --- Inner Workings of RV's & Staying connected, relaxing & traveling with others.
I had hoped to have an RV by now so I could have made the end of Feb. get together, but it is not to be. I go back to work next month, so I will have to put this all off until end of summer, which I am very unhappy about as it pushes me even further behind. :(

All I suggest at this time is for you to get in as many as you can - start narrowing down what type you might want and what floorplans you like/dislike. And HAVE FUN!

I discovered when I started out that when looking for a used rv - don't count on finding a good one up north. I expanded my search nationwide.

I would suggest that besides the interior, you should look into storage areas on the outside and locate the hookups to determine how easy or hard they are to use. Check to see if you can reach the water pump and filter so you can change it yourself. For example mine requires you to have either extremely long arms or stuff half your body into a storage compartment.

Also can you reach light fixtures to turn lights on and off? How easy is it to access where you will store clothing, towels and sheets, meds and shampoo etc.

Is there a comfortable place to sit and read? Work on a computer? Lay on the bed to make sure you fit. Ditto for shower.

I am planning to go to the Mpls RV Show on Friday. What day were you thinking of going? Maybe we could meet up there for a bit? PM me if you are interested in a mini GTG!

Sometimes the dealers offer show discounts, so if you see something you really like ~ ask.

Not meaning to steal the thread, but the Chicago RV show is February 18 thru 22nd. Hoping there are no more blizzards, but I'm planning on going Friday & Saturday. Some year I plan to get thru the entire show!

Decide if you want a dinette or not. We did not want a dinette but a couch instead. Took years to find one with the layout we wanted. With the couch and a tv tray for each of us we have more floor room and comfort in sitting. We looked in MN for 4 years for a 20' foot trailer that had the layout we wanted. Beth is right in expanding your horizons and looking farther out of state for a good used one. My sister in Yuma found one for us. It was three years old and had been used 3 times. She scrutinized it very very well and gave it a good recommendation. We bought it sight unseen but when we finally get to AZ to get it we loved it. When you look at RV's at the trade show be wary of what the sales people tell you, especially about towing a trailer. If you have questions go to the tow vehicles manufacturer. Sales people will tell you what they think you want to hear. Good luck

Thanks for the info everyone - I have looked in the storage compartments but never reached into one. I will do that, good idea! And standing in the shower, I have not done that, although I have tried out the beds. I know what type of RV I want - I want exactly what Beth has! The problem is in finding it. I have been watching all over the US the problem I have is that when I start looking and able to travel there isn't much left. Also, I could go to FL. but would have to travel the entire state to look at everything, and while that sounds ok, the expense would be to much.
I am looking forward to the show and talking to the dealers.
Barbie not sure what day I am going I will PM you after I hear from my daughter and make a decision. Have a great day everyone, I am off to get my taxes done, oh happy day :?

Keep in mind non use is a danger the MH or TT are made to use... they can deteriorate when sitting for long periods of time...
I have had a tt 17 1/2ft a class A 27ft and now a class C 27ft... on a lark a few years ago I put in a question on a MH at Camping World in south of Indianapolis... the excellent sales man called me and as we talked he gave me info on my current MH... a good salesperson listens to what you want and can usually find that for you...
I hope you soon find your gem!
