Change of Plans

Guess I jumped the gun on selling my Roadtrek. My daughter reminded me that I needed it for her wedding vow renewal in OK in April. And, if their purchase goes through of their land in Mt Pleasant, TX I will be buying a new mobile and putting it on their land soooooo I need somewhere to live for that month or two that will take and of course, my RV is that place.

I removed my Craig's List ad. I had a couple of nibbles but one guy offered me $5,000. It was all I could do not to tell him where to shove it.

Anyway, life just keeps turning and twisting.

Hello Karen.

I have had my van finished for well over a year, but haven't been able to travel since July because of my best friend being so ill (my dog).

I love my van, and I love travelling in it. . . but I find myself drawn more and more to the Roadtrek, mainly because it's van-like, and also for the "stand-up" factor. I can't stand up in my van, which most of the time is ok - but does get bothersome after a while. Also, my van is not "self-contained" (no shower, just porta-potty) which didn't seem to be an issue in the past, but with retirement looming my travel ambitions are broadening. What I might do, if my real estate sells, is keep my van (bought new, less than 10,000 miles, almost paid off) and get a Roadtrek and then decide which I like best.

This all probably sounds silly (or downright stupid) but I have always been know for my hare-brained ideas. :-)

Thus I have been looking for a Roadtrek off and on, and may just get one when my own real estate sells. Is your's still available? If not right now (not sure from your post if you would be keeping it until after your move) then a few months down the line? I'm not ready to buy right now - although I hope to look at a Roadtrek this weekend, mainly because I have never seen inside one.

In any case, may I ask: How have you liked your RoadTrek? Why are you selling it? Would you get one again, or would you go with another type RV?

I know that Judy on this forum also has a RoadTrek. . . I would love to hear from anyone - on here or by PM - that has, or has had, a RoadTrek or similar vehicle.

You DARN ladies! Reading all your wonderful RV posts over the last few years has made me think about going in a different direction!!

Anne when we get together in future I will show you my Leisure Travel van which is the Sprinter version similar in size to Roadtrek. You could spend some time in it with me visiting to get an idea what it's like to live in. I ALS like reading the blog of a fulltime gal who goes by Winnie Views. She has a great blog on living in that size vehicle. She and her dog travel around and she tows a small car. Sprinter is diesel but they do get good fuel economy and stuff like oil changes are way longer intervals than gas. It's all a choice but I like the size.

I LOVE, LOVE my Roadtrek (well maybe except for the aisle shower). I had a 30' Gulfstream Class C and I fulltimed in it for three years. I love how I can take my Roadtrek ANYWHERE; if you can park a truck I can park the Roadtrek. I chose not to get a diesel - the cost of upkeep is much higher on a diesel and the cost of diesel if higher. I bought my trek with just over 100,000 miles and it has a Dodge 360 (?) the big engine. My son-in-law who has been a mechanic, says that engine should easily go 300,000 miles IF well maintained. The only reason I was going to sell was that I don't seem to be travelling as much; been doing it since 2003, and I lost a dear friend who traveled with me a lot. I'm anticipating selling my home (if all goes according to plan) sometime around May - June??? That's if I don't end up changing my mind completely. If you ever get near to Kerrville I'd be happy to show you my trek. I travel with two smallish dogs, now three and don't feel crowded at all.

Karen, I also may be interested in your Roadtrek, if Anne doesn't buy it. So keep me on your list when you get ready to sell. I also like the idea of staying small.
I hope that everything works out the way you want it to.
